Wish Me Luck...
« on: April 13, 2009, 09:12:41 AM »

My father the photographer thinks I am a 'camera murderer' for what I am about to undertake. But, what is better; a MiB, never used, Polaroid 120 slowly rotting away, or cutting one up to accept a pack-film back and getting some use from it?

The saw is warming as we speak...

OK, if you insist...

Unmarked, bright and shiny:

Sparkling (B-1/500 & f4.7 to f90):

Accessories included original leather carry bag, Polaroid lens cloth, ND and O2 filters, hood, wink-light and (dead) selenium meter:

I will try and document the process as best possible...

These can be converted to take 4x5 sheet film holders (Razzle does it.
If you don't dismantle everything, put plenty of blue painter's tape on the inside to avoid picking little metal shards off everything...

The mod is done by milling a part of the back and removing the pressure plate door...

For those who don't have a lot of experience, attempting something like that is almost guaranteed to kill the camera.

Take into account the film registration distances or else you won't be able to focus properly...

Please do. I can't wait to see what happens next. This is like EastEnders except no one gets run over (at least I hope).

i'd imagine the toughest part will be making sure the focal length remains the same...

I've thought about. I've been away, I've come back, I've thought about it some more, I'm sorry I just couldn't do it.  :o

I just couldn't. I have everything crossed that it comes out OK.

that would be bizarre, and probably impossible, given the circuitry of the flip-top 600 cameras.

The problem with the flip-tops is simply taking them apart without damaging anything. They're all held together with clips and you must need something like 6 hands just to take the shell out.

yeah looking at my sun640, it's all one big piece of plastic. hmmm...got me thinking, though. i don't know how you would get power for the exposure though without the pack battery. plus isn't the ISO for 600 like 640?
