Recycled photo paper?????
« on: February 27, 2009, 05:53:30 PM »
Does anyone make recycled photo paper?

Fibre based that is-- for making traditional black and white prints?

We have recycled paper for everything it seems, so I was wondering if there was a photo paper version out there?

 :)

As far as I know, there isn't such a thing as recycled traditional photo paper.

But for inkjet, hahnemuehle does make some eco-papers. Their bamboo line is quite impressive.

Wouldn't it just fall apart after being in the water for so long?  I'm not completely sure...  it's a nice thought though.

The problem with most recycled paper is controlling the PH and lignin content. This affects directly the the paper's lifespan. Since photo paper needs to be perfectly neutral for the image to survive, it probably explains why such a product isn't available on the market (or at least to my knowledge).

Hi there. I came across this question in my search for the very same question! Ha

Anyway, I am doing an analysis of my university photo labs, digital and dark. I've done hours, upon hours, upon hours of research, and FINALLY have come across something excellent.

FSC certified photo paper! Contains 30% post consumer fiber...here is the link to the article and the article links to the paper maker, SMART Papers.

I think they let you try a sample too. Not sure if you  have to pay or not...I'm sure for shipping and handling at least...

I really hope this helps! I'm going to suggest my university's digital lab tests it out! : )

AH! I just re-read your question and saw you are looking for dark room paper.

This stuff is for ink jet I guess, but it's a start!

If I ever come across B&W eco paper in my research I'll for sure post it.
