Thanks all for the recommendations on purchasing a new light meter. The Sekonic L-308 was the option I chose:
Small, fast and very accurate (0.1, 0.3 and 0.5
f-stop options), I am very pleased with it. While my Gossen Digisix was convenient, it lacked metering versatility and probably suffered from some accuracy or at least sensing issues (small sensor). Off into the wilderness yesterday the new Sekonic even coped well with raining volcanic ash (well better than me coughing everywhere that is):
