any word on the retail price on the regular (non-limited) edition? i've already seen someone selling them on yahoo auctions taiwan, but they were asking close to 200 usd for it. which of course is a bit ridiculous.  i'm not sure which version they were selling or where they got it(the seller was in japan).

Both limited (now sold out), and regular colors are JPY12,600. Or they were today anyway. There is one on eBay now (funny that), and I am sure some will show up elsewhere too, as a few were buying handfuls today...

Nice cam to use, with quite toy like, but not strong Holga-like results:

 - please don't forget I've already been 'testing' it and my impressions are available for all to read and see!

(don't get me wrong, Sean's reviews are excellent, but I want to bags 'dibs' on being the first! I'm childish like that! as a partial excuse for being a baby, I offered to write a review for Lightleaks but they already have Gary on the job, so I'm feeling a little down/dejected/rejected whatever...)
;D

Real bummer about the limited editions being sold out, I was really keen to get one of those...

OK! We'll make you feel better here then! We love you. I am pleased I can say, 'that's my friend's kids on the poster when I buy them down the street'!

'ほんと' (fair dinkum), they replied to me, not believing a dweeb like me could know someone involved in the project.

Glad to know Gary has one already then too, as I'll email others that expressed an interest today on the few left... See ya! Skj.

LOL! You're so good to me Skorj! So 'ほんと' really translates to the Japanese equivalent of fair dinkum? As for you being a dweeb, Skorj, you will never be a dweeb! A photogeek maybe, dweeb, never. (I'm not evn sure what a dweeb is!)

odd that it didn't come with instructions (it even says 'please see the manual' inside the camera!). not that i need them, it's pretty basic. though it took me a minute to figure out how to open up the film cartridge compartment.
interesting mix of well built and somewhat flimsy feeling. pretty for sure. will take mine out next week...

Errr... that be because I forgot to include it when I packed it. Next thing, I will be voting Republican.

Where can these be ordered from?

Over at the Megaperls Webshop, along with a heap of other tasty Japan only products:
Megaperls Webshop - Blackbird, Fly.
Just the regular variety it seems, no limited edition colors... Shogani! Have fun! Skj.

Sean, just emailed you the manual in pdf form for your reference, even though I know you'll have worked it out for yourself.
Skorj thanks for the link, I'll post that on my site, quite a few people are asking!
 :)

edit - at least I'm trying to send it to you, gmail's playing up again!    >:(

hmmmm I've been waiting and waiting for this camera to come out, but I think I'm going to have to wait before dropping $150+ on it.  I know there are rumors of it being brought over here, and although I am the most impatient person in the world, I might have to hold off until it becomes more widely available to order online.

Geez Ed, I am Scottish and I have no idea what you say!  ;)

...Mine should be here today, and I plan on shooting like a maniac all weekend and getting some stuff online asap..

.. what film is everyone using with these? I just scored some of that 'redscale' film to review, and I think I might just grab a few rolls of asst. films and run them thru..

... for the Lucky ones who already have one of these babies, any advice?

nic, I've used a few different types of film and (of course) depending on the prevailing lighting and aperture selection (cloudy or sunny) you will get varied (but often pleasing) results!
Here are some examples taken with the bbf with the film type listed as the file name for your consideration:

Thanks!
I will grab an assortment of films and give it a shot..

The camera is 1/125 at f7 or f11, correct?

Have you tried using a meter at all to select the film or f-stop?

(I know that might be cheating, but....)

My wife just emailed me to say the Blackbird is at the house, but I am stuck in the studio across town!
So I will have to bang out a few rolls tonight before it gets too dark...
I am looking for excuses to get outta here early, but we are slammed with work!

arrgh.!

Thanks again to Skorj for all the help in getting one of these things in the states!

The shutter speed and f-stops are as you stated nic. I haven't used a light meter for any of my shots, I tend to guesstimate loosely using the sunny 16 rule - but I don't think anyone could say using a light meter was cheating... just being thorough.
Have fun with your camera, I have become very very fond of mine in the short time I've had it (in truth, I fell in love with this beasty when I first got hold of the prototype model for a test) The bbf is going to be one of the cameras I take out on World Toy Camera Day.

You're lucky already. My wife will call and ask why the hell am I buying another camera if she sees one arriving. Now I ship all cameras to my office and smuggle 'em home  ;D Congrats on your birdie. I'm still waiting patiently ... 2 more weeks I heard :(
