Cause it's summer....summer time is, here.
« on: June 22, 2008, 01:55:30 AM »
I finally shot some 665 off with the Polaroid 195. How in the heck do you keep that stuff from curling up? I have a hard time. I had a few shots left and pulled two that were decent....while the last few frames got jammed up and made a giant mess. I could not pull the tabs without them ripping to save my life. It was ugly...

In any event....shots for the summer. What did you shoot?

Yeah, it does tend to curl really badly. I literally have to tape it down to scan it... once it's in the neg sleeves, it does flatten out after a while...

Using the reflective mode, rather than film, at least it gets flattened by the scanning board and stays relatively secure. But man, does the 665 make really pretty and big negatives. I wish I had this stuff before when using the 667 and portrait work. After seeing Skorj's gorgeous prints in his recent show, my only regret was not buying this film when it was available....and cheaper. I have several packs left and will make it a point to shoot something spectacular.

Here's one more before things got very fugly...

looks like a skorj technique... i keep meaning to scan them like that, cuz it's a pain putting the two halfs together...but i keep doing it.

i'm all out of 665, but here's a couple recent shots with 85. still have two more packs.
someone offered me some 87 for 18 bucks a pack, but it's from china, so with shipping it would be $107 for 4 packs. i can get 10 packs of 667 for that price. i want it, but too much money. bummer.

How do you scan yours then? I am amazed by how some people I know who use the 665 and throw that side away.  Can you scan the goop when dried? That black tar is like amazing stuff....

i scan the negs using the neg setting...but they are wider than the strip, so i have to do it in two halfs and put them together in photoshop. though scanning as reflective works pretty well, just softer, like wilma below.

ed: yeah people keep commenting on the dof on my polaroid shots. my square shooter has a colorpack II front, and i also use a colorpack III for type 100s, so maybe the colorpacks just have more dof than some of the other polaroids. you can see it really well in the coke machine shot.

Wow, I did not know you could even scan like that and merge them together. Clever, but a chore it seems. I tried scanning with film/color negative mode and made for this really neat bronzy effect...but...both sides are cropped like you said. So I scan in reflective mode. Not sure how Mark does his...I imagine somewhat of the same.
