Random Hamster slide scans, first 2
« on: April 30, 2008, 10:15:59 PM »
Heres to all of you that gave me some advice,  the first couple of slides I tried tonight...

Both are Bessa R3a, the first is with 15mm lens, the second with 40mm Nokton.
I used Francois' suggesting for the main sharpening in photoshop, then used Leons' after I had reduced in size.  I didnt sharpen during scanning but used 2400 res.  I need to play with it more and I havent tried printing anything yet but its better than I have been getting. Still on Epson Scan but think I will go for Vuescan next!

they look great. 1st one is my favourite. Mine is on older model epson and I find that the grain in skies is huge. I've started turning all the epson controls off and doing it in PS. In the 'in praise of the point and shoot' thread that you (kindly) commented on, I select the sky and apply a little blur or gaussian blur to soften grain. Even a wee bit can give the clouds a slightly dreamier feel.

Thanks Francois, Leon, I think I may even have made the smaller sizes too sharp compared to the larger ones I originally got from scanning!

Karl, I know what you mean about Gaussian Blur, its a fantastic tool and used with a little 'glow' from photoshop sometimes...very mysterious!  ;)
Will try some more over the next few days.
