First weekend of the year 3–4 January 2026!
« on: January 02, 2026, 08:39:33 PM »
I'm determined to force myself out of my slump, so I wanted to kick things off with the first weekend of the year.
Unfortunately, I haven't shot anything for months. However, did do some scanning this week.

Both of these are Tri-x, developed in HC-110. I still like the look of Tri-X. One is at the Tate gallery sometime last year, and the other is Annette in a hotel in Bristol.

Go for it Nigel,  I'm trying to do the same thing but had set myself the target of posting some new images.

Never been into Tri-X myself or used HC-110 on any film, but I do like the look of these images, the grain looks nice and smooth.

The order of your descriptions of the images, made me think the first was at the Tate until I scrolled a bit further and realised they were the other way around.

Both are lovely images.  I can't help wonder what the picture on the wall is, but the charm for me here is the air of mystery.  I am not sure that if it was crystal clear and full frame, I would stand any chance identifying the image anyway.

Informal portraits has always been my favourite subject of mine and I really like this image.

HC-110 was definitely made for Tri-X.

Thanks, Mike

I'm not big on resolutions, but I am trying to make the new year something of a new start.

I have no idea what the picture was, it took me a while to remember being there!

I googled HC-110 yesterday to check the price (it's far more expensive than the last time I bought a bottle) and this came up.

I'm sure if anyone else uses it, but it's quite interesting.

I personally would go for the cheapest clone I can find.
I find that Kodak is forced to charge a premium for their stuff these days (say thank you Mr. President), which obviously means it got so much better overnight, 'cause you know, expensive=better.  :-\

I've been using the FPP-110 since I can get it in a smaller bottle.  I don't use it often enough to keep a large bottle around. It works just the same as Kodak.

In the early FPP days, their reduced pricing and the low-ish cost of shipping made buying from them affordable outside the US. But since Covid, transatlantic shipping is far more expensive.

I think I'm going to try a small bottle of the Bellini clone and see how that works. I also want to try their ECO (Xtol) clone. I've always wanted to try Xtol, but I shoot so little, I wouldn't get through 5L before it dies.

Due to weather, work and other stuff i haven't been shooting much lately.  I did have some time over the holidays to set up my darkroom and make some prints of some shots from 2025.

They're lovely Bryan. Taking a darkroom workshop is something I'd love to do when I retire. I've recently read The Grapes of Wrath, the abandoned truck and the barns remind me of that.

Thanks Nigel.  I really enjoy working in the darkroom, it's relaxing and I get lost in it for hours.  After about 5 hours my wife starts banging on the door.   "Are you ever coming out of there?"  I recommend trying it out when you have the time.

In the western U.S. they just leave old buildings and farm equipment to rot, which takes forever in the dry climate.  I guess the land is so vast they don't need to spend the money or effort to remove stuff.

That's exactly what is going on.
Here in Canada, things like that are pretty rare as the land is more scarce (especially in Quebec, Ontario and British Columbia). Yes, we have one of the largest territories in the world. But only about a 300km (186 miles) band is actually habitable. The rest is woodland, rock and permafrost with a whole gamut of biting insects just waiting for some fresh meat that is not protected by fur.

I know this one is digital, but I just wanted to show what a photo taken with a Kodak Charmera looks like so that anybody interested in getting one knows what they will be getting.

The photo on Flickr is full resolution.

I'd not heard of it before, but that is tiny!

It absolutely is. Becky got the same model as I did (the blue one).
This has got to be the perfect digital toy camera in pretty much every way. Microscopic sensor, low resolution, low pixel count (barely enough for a 4x6) and so much cuteness that it just makes you a bit soft inside  :)

Those things sold-out worldwide within 24 hours!
I was lucky that my local camera shop had bought a few cases for the holidays.
There is a cheaper version from China called the thumb camera. This one is widescreen 16:9 and higher resolution, but the colors are not as nice on the photos.
