Weekend - June 13 - 15, 2025

Kodak Medalist with Ilford Delta 100 developed in beer.  The first two were shot using a tripod, the second was secured against a lamp post.  I always have camera shake problems with this camera when I try to shoot handheld.  I do love the lens on it though.

I must admit that the Medalist is a pretty hefty chunk of steel, that's why they were used by the military.

The Navy probably liked them because they could double as a boat anchor.

I dug out my Yashica FX-2, which is not rated too high on the desirable list that I bought some years ago as a beater to use with the attached Yashica ML 50mm f2 lens for some backyard astrophotography.  Mostly lunar stuff as it's an easy target.
Hookstrapped mentioned this lens in a recent "I just picked up" thread with a nice Contax camera he bought. I have Contax envy!!!

anyway, here's two Moon shots from early this morning.
Hand held up to eyepiece of my non tracking telescope, so they are not tack sharp as they would be if I used the tracker.

The weird one with the stripes on it is a mystery to me....perhaps it is some kind of shutter curtain artifact/anomaly?

Or maybe light bouncing between the lenses?
Those angled lines on the side are really puzzling...
No matter what, it does look cool

Agreed! That's the coolest shot! 😁 Reminds me of a Nosferatu-like horror movie still 😊

I know it's going to sound strange, but could it be light entering through the eyepiece during exposure?

I could be light through the eyepiece, but if it is, then it should be consistent...

I have temporarily retired the camera.  I called Mark Hama about it and it's not worth repairing.

Doesn't look like any type of shutter issue to me. I would try the camera/lens taking some normal (not astro) photographs and see if you get a problem. I'm thinking this is more to do with holding the camera up to an eyepiece and possible reflections.

But, if it proves to be a camera issue, paying Mark Hama prices would definitely make it 'not worth repairing'. I would replace it with an FX-3.
