Good news for Polaroid Folders
« on: August 11, 2022, 05:12:21 PM »
Good news for all those of us who have an old Polaroid folder sitting on a shelf and staring at us with a sad eye.
Somebody has just made an adapter that allows you to easily use integral film in it.

Check out this article on Petapixel

While it's not cheap at 280US$, it's so far the best solution there seems to be.

Besides the price there are a couple of things that strike me here. To get the correct orientation you have hold the camera in the vertical position. I also noted that the viewfinder is not replaced so the framing will probably be a bit haphazard. As for the advantage of better lenses I suppose that depends on what model you've got, many of the type 100 cameras had plastic lenses. Let's hope that those who buy it are happy, though.
Before I jump on this bandwagon I will wait a bit and see what "doc" Florian Kaps has up his sleeve. And I still have a few packs of Fuji FP100C and FP3000B in the fridge.

I'm still waiting too as I don't have that amount of money to put on camera gear.
But I'm still optimistically happy to see that this is coming out.

Does he still have something up his sleeve besides One Instant?

No, but they are planning to develop the concept, maybe one day we will see Ten Instant.  :P

Somehow I feel that the Lomo and Polaroid idea pool is pretty much starting to run dry.
It's been years since they last launched something really fun.
While they have produced some really neat stuff like the Lomo-Graflock, their expensive lenses and some weird film, it's not what I would actually call fun.

I just read something on another forum which I should have realized. The type 100 packfilm cameras does not have a reflecting mirror like the SX-70 and 600 cameras. So the images coming out of these converted cameras will be reversed left to right. Could be a surprise for some of the buyers.

It will be a surprise that's for sure.

But somehow, I'm surprised at the choice for Polaroid. I would have been more tempted to go for Instax wide... but hey, beggars can't be choosers.

The way the land camera body is cast, with the relieve grooves for the bellows arms, make it pretty much impossible to get Instax to the film plane, without chopping the body, and spacing those arms apart.

Jianyi.su has done the best Instax on land camera mod I know of.

You can see here how the the frame was chopped horizontally, and spaced apart by about two cm.

This new french back looks like very nice clean design. I wonder whether they are really getting the fim to the original film plane?

I really doubt that they can get it exactly to the same place as there isn't much wiggle room in there.
But I read that the cameras are easily re-calibrated, so it might not be much of a problem.

Hi all - haven't been here for a while....

the newland back comes supplied with a corrector lens to ensure critical focus and the lens fits both manual and automatic folding cameras. it is fitted to the rear element.

cheers

Matt
