Weekend - April 22, 23 & 24, 2022
« on: April 22, 2022, 06:01:54 PM »
Trying out Kodak Gold 200 in my Rolleicord Va.  The first two shots were in my neighborhood.  The second two shots are the start of a California coast road trip with my wife.

My neighbor got flocked for her birthday.

After a long drive down Interstate 5 our coast road trip started with a drive across this bridge into San Francisco.

Spotted this old Ford in San Francisco so I had to stop for a photo.  Talked to the owner, he was trying to find a brake cylinder gasket for it.  The parts store sold him something that wasn't even close to what he needed.

What a great start Bryan.
I'll hopefully get time to post later but it'll not be a match for this.
I know it not a competition but I just can't help measuring myself against so many wonderful photographers on here|

Irv, you are doing some great work; it's just us not being good enough at commenting on each other's achievements. I know I need to get better at that. What makes me sad is that there are so few posting in these weekend threads, have people stopped taking pictures?

I've been fooling around with a wide angle lens this week, nothing remarkable.

Well...I'm one of the guilty parties who hasn't posted much in the past couple of years. I came to realize during covid that, after 40 years in the same town/neighborhood/house, I no longer "see" pictures that I know are there. I periodically drag along a digital camera, just in case something catches my eye, but usually nothing pops out. I'm looking forward to getting out to new places and seeing new faces, now that restrictions are easing.

A couple of shots from a test roll of Acros II, for which the jury is still out (for me; I really liked Acros I and, so far, the new emulsion isn't quite the same).

I'm so glad to see some of that Kodak gold!
It's really nice stuff.
I'll be making a little road trip next week so hope to have some new stuff to share soon.
And yeah, the herd seems pretty thin here.

I probably don’t comment as much as I should on other peoples photos but I really do enjoy seeing them.  I realize I’ve been lucky to travel a lot, especially during this pandemic, it has kept me motivated to shoot film.  I do loose motivation in my own neighborhood but I’m always on the lookout for something.  That leads me to still life’s, macro and microscopic photos.  When I saw the flock of pink flamingos in my neighbors yard I knew I had to load the camera and get over there.  They already know I’m a photography nut so they were happy to see me.  I hope others get motivated with the pandemic easing and spring flowers blooming.

I think we are have different kinds of pressures in our lives going on, that get in the way of our film shooting which can lead to a lack of motivation to get out and make pictures but as long as we have fun when we get behind that camera that's the main thing.
A couple more from the brief trip to Scotland, although these two are from the route up, when I diverted through the Lake District.

I know my use of film has declined precipitously in the last couple years. A lot of it is the lack of travel, but other stuff gets in the way too. I've got at least half a dozen rolls of color I need to send out for development, and four or five cameras with partially-completed rolls of B&W in them, but nothing seems to get finished. Anything I've posted here in the last six months has basically been from one short road trip. Full disclosure, I also bought a Fuji X100F that I've been trying to get a handle on, so what little photography I've done has mostly been with that. I'm planning more travel in the next few months, so hopefully that will get things trending in the right direction.

I do look through the weekend threads, and I should comment more than I do, but frankly I sometimes find it a bit depressing to see that others are producing work while I'm not.
Any man who can see what he wants to get on film will usually find some way to get it;
and a man who thinks his equipment is going to see for him is not going to get much of anything.

I'm really happy to see that we're pretty much all in the same boat.
Like Earl, I've been living in the same house for over 40 years and as time went on, I've had to work harder to see interesting things around.
Thing is that I live in what is probably the most boring city there is. There's not much that's interesting photographically as everything fits in that meh category. Not nice enough to be beautiful, not dilapidated enough to be interesting.
We have a nightmare road system that makes getting out of the city unbelievably long. We're annoyingly close to Montreal, but last time I went to the city it took me 1 1/2 hours to simply get across the bridge. That takes out a lot of the fun of going there.
And let's say that the pandemic really didn't help as I had to restrain my outings in order to protect my elderly parents.
I've got a roll in the camera, but I barely remember what was on it...

And yes Kai, there are fewer pictures taken these days. But it's not because our love of the medium is waning, it's because of the lack of opportunities (at least for the majority of us).

pretty much in agreement with what you're all saying.
lack of time and/or opportunity has led to a huge drop in my photographic output of late - both film and digi.
website is in dire need of an update, and at least 3 blog posts drafted but unfinished... apathy on a grand scale.

I have half a dozen rolls waiting for me to dev, but having spent a small fortune on refurbing kitchen and bathroom, mrs cob is a little reticent in allowing me to slosh chemicals around...

I visit FWs most days, but don't always log in, but I really should make the effort, because whether we've met or not, I feel I know you all through this little window, so should and will try harder to be more active.

I'm encouraged, seeing many of the comments here about time and other tasks, that I'm not alone...I think it was January the last time I managed to post anything here! And tonight's struggle was with my usb stick, two hours to transfer onto the stick, shrink using my old laptop, and get them back on the stick...argh...and they're not even special really...

I like the Gold 200 shots, and have just done my first roll too, what a gem!

But last weekend I did something new for me, and managed to push a roll of HP5+ to 3200 using Paranol S, working out the times using guidance from how other developers have been used with this film...and this weekend to push a roll to 6400iso using similar extrapolation!

Our band played at a psychedelic rock mini-festival in Liverpool, so here are a couple of the Scottish band Dead Otter!

When I joined this forum it was quite common for some members to "sum up" the weekend thread and give credit to the participants. I thought that was a nice way to get feedback from other members and also useful to get one's own work commented on. I will make an attempt here, hopefully others will join me.

I like Bryan's last shot for several reasons. It's shot from a low angle so that we get much of the building behind the truck in the frame. The colour of the truck's side panel is repeated in the colours of the building, and the building could very well be from the same time period as the truck. And to top it off is the "No parking" sign.

EarlJam's second picture shows clearly the division into foreground, middle ground and background. I specially liked the dark tree shadow in the foreground that is mirrored by the dark tree in the background. Well seen!

Irv's first shot has a bright wedge coming from the upper right side, and a dark wedge from the left. Where they meet they make a focal point for the valley below, and draws the attention to it. Well done!

If I have to chose between LEAFotography's two nice shots it will be the second. It shows the concentration and communication between the two musicians.

Since it was the Pinhole day, I took out two 3D printed cameras I had never tried before.
Well... OK, I was a day late to the party but who cares :)
Both cameras are 4x5 and were originally designed by Todd Schlemmer (A.K.A. The Schlem).
But I did modify them a bit. The first one is a Pinh5ad P5 with the 90mm cone attached.
The other one is an extreme wide angle model, the Pinh5ad Muto ][ (I redesigned the entire front on the original Muto).
I really need to find some stick-on bubble levels for them!
All done on Ortho Litho film developed for 90 seconds in HC-110 Dil.F.

Hope you like them 😊
