Weekend...last of November
« on: November 26, 2021, 04:49:35 PM »
from a week long jaunt to Texas to see some friends with a quick trek through El Paso.
This guy was cruising the streets just a few blocks north of the border and Juarez.
He told me he loves these things and has seven.

Becky, I don’t know how many times I would fall flat on my face before I figure out how to use one of those.  That’s why I’m going to stick to walking.

These were shot on my last day on the job site in Navajo, NM.  These two Rez dogs were trying to catch a Bull snake for supper.  They chased it under the shed and were determined to get it.  The one under the shed I called Lucky.  The day after it showed up on site it was gone which wasn’t unusual.  These dogs come and go all the time.  I had my crew working in a remote part of the site when they heard a dog barking.  They went to investigate and found t in a deep concrete sump half full of water with no way out.  The dog managed to get itself up onto a concrete ledge and must have spent almost a full day there.  My crew rescued her from the sump.  She would have died in there if we hadn’t been on site, I was told they find dead dogs in there every now and then.  She was very grateful and hung out with us for a few weeks until we left the site.  We did build a ramp in the sump so animals can find a way out.

Leica IIIc using a Leitz Elmar 5cm f/3.5 lens and Panatomic-X that expired 3/1963, developed in Kodak HC-110 dilution B.  It was late in the afternoon and the sun was close to setting.  I rate this film at 12 ASA and my meter said it was too dark.  I shot it wide open and they actually turned out really good.

Same here on falling flat on my face.
This cowboy had it down and made it look easy. He never offered me a try which I suspect he could probably size up a good candidate pretty quickly.

I'm going to miss your photos of rez dogs and New Mexico. I hope you have a big backlog.

My backlog is running out.  I have one more roll I need to finish in my Leica, it’s from my drive home.

So I took my "new" Leidolf Lordox Jr. to the beach a few days ago. I'm quite pleased with the results, shot without filter or hood. Not bad for a 64 year old camera.

The day after the storm.

Any man who can see what he wants to get on film will usually find some way to get it;
and a man who thinks his equipment is going to see for him is not going to get much of anything.

Bryan those dogs look so cute I'm surprised you could resist ( I don't know if I could) not taking a couple home - are they wild dogs?

A couple of  shots with Sandeha Lynch made Tutone 5x4 90mm Schneider Angulon, Acros in HC110

Trust me, it’s very hard to resist, I came close to doing it.  My wife wants me to bring home every stray I tell her about, I rarely tell her about them anymore.  These dogs are wild, even if they have a collar on.  People try to claim them but they don’t hang around.  They also come with a lot of baggage.  These two are so used to hunting for their food I’m not sure how they would adapt to a fenced suburban back yard.  They eat everything that moves, lizards, snakes, bugs, rabbits….  I never saw a stray cat anywhere on the Navajo Nation.  There’s also the diseases they can carry, bubonic plague, parvovirus, hantavirus, mange, etc.  I wouldn’t want to bring something like that home to my old blind dogs.  I’m pretty sure at least one of those two has a belly full of puppies.  The one under the shed was in heat when she first showed up on site and had all the boys chasing her around.  Rez dogs have also been known to kill people, a young girl was killed by some earlier this year not far from where I was working.  I have brought strays home in the past and I’m sure I will again but I just saw too many potential problems with this situation.

I don't blame you.
The big problem is that they aren't socialized properly. If somebody was to get a young puppy, it would be possible to do something. But then again, you don't really know what kind of genetic baggage they come with.

Shot a band (well, a duo) on HP5+ at 1600. First scans on my new-to-me Epson V600, and this one glitched a bit, it's super contrasty and grainy compared to the others. But I like the effect and kept it. I prefer that my equipment do most of the heavy lifting when it comes to artistic decisions 🤣

I had ordered the Lomography Lomographic back for my Toyo D45m back in April and it just showed up on my door today. After a quick drive to get some Fuji Instax wide and setup the camera.

Many more photos will come out from this camera. It's about as hard as using a Polaroid Packfilm back. This came out much better than I could imagine.

Exposure 1/4 s at f22 at ISO 800. The sun was falling fast... I had to move.

Satish I love this. The grain really sets the mood for me. When I saw it on instagram I hoped that you would post it here, for me it's the best shot that I have seen for a long time.

Thanks Irv! It was kind of shocking to see it come up in the preview like this, especially surrounded by much less contrasty and more typical HP5 looks. My scanner is a better artist than I am 😁

Sometimes my scanner also comes up with textures like that when on auto. And when I try to reproduce it by hand I never get to reproduce the effect.

Ah! Speaking of eyes, I'm pretty sure that "catch light" reflection in her eyes is actually a spot of silver from my old fixer 🤣 Again, letting the equipment make the artistic decisions!! 🤣🤣🤣
