Please prevent me from buying something I don't need!
« on: November 22, 2021, 11:09:03 PM »
OK... I got an email this afternoon which led me down the rabbit hole.
When I showed it to mom, she told me I shouldn't be spending that amount of money on a box with a hole in the side.
But then again.... I feel like I'm going to need some calamine tonight.
Then I went to aliexpress and found the same thing a bit cheaper when you factor in the exchange rate and customs.
But mom keeps insisting that I don't need another box with a hole in it.

She says she doesn't want to give me advice, but she tells me that it's not worth 68$ + 10$ shipping + customs to save about 25$...

I know it's rare but I need help  ;D

Oooh, I have one of those and it is an absolute joy 😁 Can't remember how much I paid for it, but if you're saying it'll cost you $100, I say it's well worth it in the enjoyment you'll get from it.

Also, this forum is obviously not the place to get advice against buying photography gear, but you knew that 😉

Just FYI for US residents, I see that Freestyle has these for $60 on clearance.
The first thing I thought about looking at this was how to build one out of wood for less money.
A few ideas are percolating in my feverish brain.
I see the stats are a .3mm pinhole working at f135 which give a focal length of 40.5mm. I assume the film gate opening is 56X112mm for 6 exposures on a roll. With Foma or Freestyle film at $5 a roll that is 80 cents a shot. (Not including tax and shipping.)

No!
Don't buy it, just use one of the Holgas you already have and wind it on randomly and make a guerilla panorama pinhole.
Save the 60$ for film.

Full disclosure, I have one of those holgas, and like it...but I got mine when they first came out and were much cheaper.

Where do you think I got the temptation from?
When you buy once buy from them, they definitely have your email address.
