Weekend of 23rd July 2021
« on: July 23, 2021, 05:40:26 PM »
I realise it's still lunchtime on the East Coast, and maybe morning further West, but I'm kicking off the weekend.

Another one from Irv's collection of Agfa Portrait 160 at 100iso (expired 06 03, developed and scanned professionally). And the second from a roll of Adox HR-IR at 50iso, with a red filter, developed in HR Dev and scanned at home!

I'm super excited as we have our first live music gig since last March this evening (woohoo!), so we're going to make a racket at a local pub :D

I was just about to start a weekend thread as well but you beat me to it.

I'm working in New Mexico right now and trying to take advantage of the opportunity by doing as much exploring of the area as I can.  Our resident New Mexico Filmwaster, Becky, recommended that I go see the Bisti Badlands/De-Na-Zin Wilderness Area.  After researching it a little I decided to make that my first trip.  I packed a lot of water, food and cameras planning to do some hiking with my gear.  I guess I was expecting to find marked trails or something to direct me where to go.  Nope, just a vast desert wasteland.  Luckily I ran into some nice people along the way that pointed me in the right direction.  I guess there are apps that direct you to the best spots but without phone service I wasn't going to be downloading any apps or maps.  The weather was a pleasant 82F when I started wandering off into the desert.  I found the rock formations called Hoodoos that are the main attraction of this place (second photo).  As a geologist I got pretty excited about the rock formations and started exploring all over the place.  After hiking over 5 miles in the desert heat I decided to head back to the car, it was close to 100F and I was on my last sip of water.  I spent the rest of the day re-hydrating.  This place is really interesting and has very few visitors since it's quite a distance from just about anywhere.

These were shot with a Zeiss Ikon ICA TRONA 9x12 Camera.  The film for the first shot is Fomapan 100 and the second shot is Kodak Plus-X Pan that expired 11/1981, both developed in Kodak HC-110 Dilution B.

Good music can't be appreciated without adequate volume  ;)

I haven't wasted much film, or pixels for that matter, in the past year due to covid restrictions. My grandkids came for their first visit since late 2019 so I thawed my last roll of "old" Acros, dusted off the Pentax MX, and took them for a walk around town.

I don't blame you.
I must say that the period is not exactly inspiring, reassuring or safe.

Now that my vaccine has top efficacy, I went out for a drive in a neighboring city with my Instax Mini8.
I found this gem of a car. It's a 1966 Citroen ID21 wagon in mint condition.

Wonderful shots of rock formations Bryan! Watch your hydration over in those parts though. I've been hearing some news about excessive heat over in North America right now!

Thanks Leaf, other than my trip to the badlands we're actually doing pretty good as far as the heat goes.  The site I'm working at has a forecast of about 80F for the next week.  Between the elevation of 7,100 feet and Monsoon storms things aren't bad as far as temperature goes.  It's the thunderstorms that are giving us problems, we've shut down work a few hours each day for the past week.  The storms seem to be attracted to our location having dozens of lightning strikes within 10 miles each day.

Actually felt good to go out and get some after-shave... I can't get the one I use through the Internet...
Thing is I have skin that makes pretty much any perfume turn sour. I simply don't like going around smelling like Leisure Suit Larry!

Cool shots everyone.
I've been tormenting my self with pinhole but have nothing to show for
it at the moment.
Also, I've got some lichen soaking in rainwater to make some "lichen
tea" for a caffenol type brew in a few days.

Bryan- cool you made it out to the bisti, It's pretty fabulous and looks
like a place to return to over and over.
We've been a couple of times and just wandered around without a map.

Another place I like a lot, and it's in between where you are and
Albuquerque, is the Sandstone Bluffs near Grants. That may be a good
place for us to meet and have a little walk around. It overlooks the badlands
south of Mount Taylor so there is a lava field and then nice bluffs
overlooking the area.  I'll pm you later about a time to meet possibly.

Stay cool everyone. We have had nice monsoony rains the past week or so,
so the heat has been knocked down a few pegs.

Great to see that you got a good shot out of the outdated roll Andy, look forward to seeing more over time.
