Weekend June 12 - 13, 2021
« on: June 12, 2021, 03:01:10 PM »
I shot this in my neighbors garden with a Crown Graphic using a Graflex Optar f/4.7 135mm lens.  The film is Kodak Contrast Process Panchromatic 4X5 film that expired in January 1961.  I developed it in Kodak HC-110 Dilution B for 5 minutes.  This is my first time using HC-110 developer, much faster than what I’m used to, 5 minutes instead of 20 with beer.  I felt like I was forgetting to do something since I’m so used to the slower process.  Even when I use Rodinal I’m using a very diluted mix that takes more time.

I posted about this film earlier this year, just got around to using it outside of testing it.  I shot it at around 50 ISO.

I love how that came out! What is the film rated at (ie, how many stops did you overexpose to correct for age)?

The data sheet in the box says ASA 100 so it hasn't lost much speed in 60 years.  The negatives look really good, maybe the high contrast helped with the fogging over time.

Oh yeah, HC-110 can be very fast. When you switch back to Rodinal, you really see the difference.
HC-110 was initially made for commercial applications, newspapers in particular. So that explains a lot of things.
It's the only developer I've ever had to cool-down with a hand made cold pack in order not to drop below the 3 minute mark!

Showborough House has a large garden and every year hosts local artists sculptures. I go along and marvel at the creations. However i find myself always drawn to an old Massey fergie used to cut the grass. Got a soft spot for it as I learnt to dive with one of these many years ago .  Lubiel 166B with Rollei IR400 = Hoya R72 filter.

Those old Massey Ferguson tractors. They were very popular here as they were Canadian made for decades.

Showborough sounds like a great place to go for a photographic wander. I'm a fan of Rollei 400 IR too!

Here's a couple from expired car boot films from last weekend, lad developed and scanned.
