Memorial Day Weekend May 28 to 31, 2021
« on: May 28, 2021, 05:32:52 PM »
Long holiday weekend for those of us in the U.S.  I have some color for a change, Baby Rolleiflex with Konica 160 that expired in 2006.  More from Dungeness Spit.

Not a Dungeness Crab shell, this from a molting Pacific Red Rock Crab.

Beautiful colors! Was Konica a Ferrania rebrand or am I thinking of something else?

Any man who can see what he wants to get on film will usually find some way to get it;
and a man who thinks his equipment is going to see for him is not going to get much of anything.

Konica was a legitimate film manufacturer, they made some good film.  I also have some Konica Infrared 750 nm that I really like.

They made some really good film. They also made what I believe was the fastest color film in the world at a whopping 3200 ISO.
When Digi came along, merged with Minolta, shuttered the film division, started making their own digicams, sold that division to Sony.
I think they only make office machines nowadays.

My fave Konica film was the Impresa 100, must be five years since I shot the last roll.

Voigtländer Bessa-L / Voigtländer Color-Skopar 4.0/21 / Fomapan 400 in HC110.

Kai, I’m just curious, why would someone park their boat in the middle of the road?

It's a long weekend in the UK also, so a extra day is always a good feeling
I was thinking of getting a series of waterfall or windmill shots as a project and as there is no waterfalls near here windmills it is.

Kai, I’m just curious, why would someone park their boat in the middle of the road?

It's not easy to see from the shots, but the boat is sitting no more than 20 yards from the seafront. Either it's waiting to be picked up by a truck or maybe going into storage in the building on the right hand in the second picture. In this area you can expect strange things to happen. It used to be an industrial area that was vacated some years ago. For some time the gypsies used to camp here until they were driven off by the police. Now there is a bike repair shop, a kayak club, a carpenters club and a makeshift sauna. It's also a popular site for street art. But it is under steady pressure from property developers who wants to build fancy apartments on the seafront. When that happens I will not set foot here again.
Here is another example of what you might expect to see here, it's shot on the same corner.

I was thinking it fell off the trailer in the middle of town and they just kept on going.  That would be one way to get rid of a boat.

odd lots from me this weekend....
Both from the diana Mini, which I like when it works.....
The church is from Taos and shot about 3 years ago when I met a friend up there to go photo-walking. I found the exposed roll recently when sorting some old film rolls. The church is a famous stop and everyone goes to photograph it....I never had until then.
It's old slide film x-pro'd in worn out C41 chems.

The other is an accidental double that I kind of like shot in Mountainair on fresh ektar 100.
I'm still getting the hang of doing color...I kind of fell off the horse.

I wanted to photograph "that church" when I was in Taos a couple years ago, but the pueblo was closed for a funeral so I didn't get the chance. I know it's been done by every kind of artist who's seen either the Ansel Adams photos or the Georgia O'Keefe paintings, but I still wish I'd gotten my shot.

As promised in a previous weekend thread, I shot a roll of Delta 400 at 1600 to see if I can get the same creamy blown out whites that I get with Delta 100 at box speed. The answer is ... complicated. Yes, it definitely works, as you can see below. But only under the proper lighting conditions (of course, as we all know, a well lit scene will always give you a good photo, and vice versa, regardless of film, speed, or processing technique). Under most other conditions, I'd prefer to use Tri-X or HP5 at 1600. And those films are less expensive too 😉

By the way, this man is my friend Rob Clores, a keyboard player I play with in Jesse Malin's band. He has his own project called Split Second Meltdown which I cannot recommend more highly. Really amazing, well produced, sludgey rock. Please give it a listen.
