Hot August weekend thread 21st to 23rd, 2020
« on: August 21, 2020, 03:42:20 PM »
You know it's been a long hot week when temperatures in the 90's seem cool.  More exploring in the Palouse, this time with a KMZ FT-2 panoramic camera.  The film is from a bulk roll of expired Tri-X developed in Rodinal 1:50.  I keep getting light from the sprocket holes bleeding into the photo, I may try some of my un-perforated ORWO UN54 next time I use this camera.

This photo of the rectifier building is the same as the one you can see under construction in my Found Film thread.  http://www.filmwasters.com/forum/index.php?topic=10046.msg136205#msg136205

another weekend! They seem to blur together these days.
Bryan, I had to look up that camera...wow! It looks like a recording device...like it could multi task and do sound as well as images.
Very cool, but kinda unwieldy to use in the field?

Mine's a bit different from what you usually see from me. I was given a box of old expired buried treasure film and one of the rolls was some old elite chrome, so I xpro'd it and this is my pick of the litter. Shot with a Konica C35, which is my favorite camera at the moment.
It's looking out my back door.   I don't know about you all, but I'm ready for a shift in temperatures too.

Those color shifts make it look hot becky!  The camera is not bad to use.  I shot the third one handheld and the other two with a monopod.  It has a spirit level on the top to help level it otherwise you can get a lot of distortion.  You do have to hang on tight, it has a good kick when that lens swings and then slams to a stop.

Been too hot for me down in Lacey. (South Puget sound). Moved from Chicago in 78 partly to get away from wretched midwestern summer’s. Looks like the rest of the month is no change. Cannot even imagine being in the desert southwest.

Couldn't it just be flow marks from the chemicals rushing through the sprockets?

Toasty here in SoCal as well, mostly 90+ degrees for the past week, and again into next week from what I can see. I'm making an effort to use the Rollei's a couple of times a year, to keep the shutters from gumming up.

Rollei 35SE, yellow filter, Tri-X

It could be, but I don't see it this bad with other cameras, plus I'll get more image area.  The problem is this camera does use a sprocket wheel for the frame counter but I think the film will still go past it fairly easily.  I'll just need to count turns.

That's easy to check, put a dummy film in the camera, close it like normal, put a microphone close to the sprocket wheel and record the winding process. When you look at the wave form, you should easily distinguish every click and grind of the mechanism. A skipping sprocket should do a sharp click.
