Topic: cheap air filter

I made one of these yesterday with an old box fan I've had for about 20 years and an inexpensive air filter.
My wish is for it to cut down the dust floating around in my house and the bad little critters that float around with it.
Not only is it healthy, it just might help with some of my dust on the negative woes of home developing.

Put a wet strip of film in front of it, after it dries scan it and see how much dust gets on it.  You could also build a film drying cabinet with a filter and a small fan. 

Living in a dry climate I can imagine the dust can get pretty bad there.  I live in a wet climate, my biggest dust problem is in the spring and summer when the pollen is thick.  That's the same time of year my wife likes to open all the windows and let fresh air in.  Even with that I find most of the dust on my negatives comes from either a dirty camera or my handling of the film in a changing bag.  Just eliminating those sources helps a lot.

I settled a long time ago on building a drying cabinet.
Thing is the house is very dusty, especially in winter when we have the heating on. It gets to be very dry too, so everything gets statically charged.

But the box filter trick definitely works for everything else. It's been a woodworker's favorite for years. When you have a lot of airborne dust in a room, you just start it and you can see the change. In my workshop I made one from an old industrial fan. It takes only a few seconds to clear the air.
