May 15 to 17, 2020 weekend
« on: May 15, 2020, 06:10:50 PM »
I have three bulk loaders of Tri-X, two are expired.  I know I tested one, I thought it was this one but I was wrong.  This roll is much slower than the others, I need to do a bracket test and mark my bulk loaders better.  I rated it at 200, should have been closer to 50.  This is the best shot from the roll, I did compensate on the exposure a bit on this one.  The rest of the shots were quite under exposed.  This was shot with a Konica C35 that I finally got around to replacing the light seals on.

Finally accumulated enough exposed film that it was worth a developing session.

Any man who can see what he wants to get on film will usually find some way to get it;
and a man who thinks his equipment is going to see for him is not going to get much of anything.

What is that number? I get anxious when there are more than 2 rolls waiting to be developed ;D

Large format has kept me from a development backlog quite nicely: my number is 24 photos, because that's the max capacity of my film holders. On that note, here's an 8x10 from this week of my sister-in-law. She's staying with us for the time being because, as a doctor, she's at high risk of contracting COVID, and she doesn't want to risk infecting anyone in her house; our place has a room with a separate entrance where she can quarantine herself. We meet out in the backyard, at a safe social distance, to chat and drink beer (beer not pictured).

Three at a minimum during times of low productivity, and ideally four. I use a four-reel Jobo tank, and I just can't justify bothering if it's only half-full.

That said, this particular effort realized approximately 2.33 rolls of photos, as the shutter in my Minox 35 has gone wonky again, so 2/3 of that roll was blank.

Makes sense. I have a 2-reel tank, therefore the anxiety when the number of rolls to develop exceeds my capacity ;D (not to mention when I have mixed color/B&W rolls)

There are ways to load 2 rolls per reel back to back. I know a couple of people who've done it...

I've tried doing that ... unsuccessfully ;D I'm sure there's a technique...

There probably is, but I never had the guts to try it out.
I know that you need to tape both films together at the start, emulsion out, and feed them that side first.
It's easier for 120 as you can make them simply follow each other using a bit of tape, they take the same amount of space as a roll of 220.
But for 35mm I think you need to use stainless reels accompanied by incense burning and a few chants...

Nice thing about the Jobo reels is that they have a little tab so you can load a roll of 120, drop the tab down, and then load a second on the same reel, with the tab acting as a stop between the two. It's a bit fussy, but being able to do four rolls of 120 at a shot is worth the hassle.
