The weekend of 7/13
« on: July 13, 2018, 03:51:34 PM »
Here's a print of a scan of a print to start us off. That's my grandmother in the hat, maybe 1945? The original is maybe 3" at its widest, so I made an 8x10 for Mom's birthday.

Nice, I wonder what they're singing?

Two more test shots from my "new" Yashica 35.

Very nice start!

Kai, how do you like that Fomapan?

Here are a couple of shots from Philadelphia, both taken on the Bronica.

That's a fun old shot Jeff, thanks for sharing it.  These were shot on the Oregon Coast at the South Jetty in Florence.  It was foggy so the lighting was flat.  Leica IIIf with a Summitar 5cm f/2 lens.  The film is expired Panatomic-X developed in beer.

Nostalgia—great stuff:  old family photo and “Ladies’ and Children’s Hair Dressing”—is one theme in the early going of this weekend’s thread.  I’ll chip in with photos of the traditional method for extracting sap from pine trees; to make cough medicine.  It’s very much a thing here, in Portugal.

This roll was in fact one of my first in the 135 format, but I've shot quite a lot in 120. What I like about the Fomapan 100 is the range of gray shades, it fits right in with my shallow DOF shots. The contrast is good, but not hard. Since it is one of the cheapest B&W films on the market it won't cost you much to try it.  :)

Not long ago I bought a Lubitel 166B for £12; here's a couple of XP2 shots from the first roll, taken at Tanfield Railway.

I was pleasantly surprised by the image quality but the viewfinder makes it very difficult to use the camera; the image often reverts to a circle instead of a square if the viewing angle isn't exactly right.

I like your beach shots, Bryan. Kai, I use Fomapan 100 for the exact same reasons. It's inexpensive and keeps up with many more expensive films. It really shines if you develop it in Fomadon LQN or Caffenol. It gains a noticeable amount of latitude compared to e. g. Rodinal.

I've recently acquired a Canon T70 with a command back. The following shot was taken with it using a Canon 50mm f/1.4 (Fomapan 100, Caffenol-C-H (RS)).

Great start to the weekend guys!
Jeff, I think your Mom will be more than pleased!

Mine's an almost catastrophe kind of photo.  I made it yesterday Friday the 13th, so if superstition comes in to play at all...well you decide.
Took a short overnight road trip out to Tucumcari with a "share the love" Zenit E and a Pentacon f/1.8 50mm lens I got from Chris.
The advance lever started to drag mid roll and would not return, but I kept manually placing it back in order to make the best of things and to keep shooting..
Also, for some reason, I had set the ISO to 400, when the film inside was APX 100...oops...so I gave it a push in caffenol when developing....

Later, when checking out the camera, the shutter curtain started to drag on the slow speeds and then just stopped working altogether! Lucky I was finished with the roll by then. I think the Zenit may be DOA, I'll so some research and see what can be done...I like it a lot, so hope it is fixable.
So...here's my best shot out of the lot, which is kind of nostalgic looking to me.
The Blue Swallow Motel is mostly shot at night because it has cool neon...
anyway, here's  my contribution.

Cheap film?? I'm going to have to get me some of that Foma. Though I did just buy 10 rolls (120) of Ultrafine Extreme 100, which may or may not be the same stock.

Here are some (surprise!) sunflowers. But here's the twist. I shot them on Arista Ortho Litho in the Speed Graphic. Dev'd in parodinal 1:100 for 60 min.

What ISO did you expose these at?
I usually expose mine at 3 ISO and then process in HC-110 dil.F....

I believe that was iso 1.5. I did another sheet at 3 and it was so thin and contrasty I didn't even scan it.
