About two weeks ago, the lady of the house, my daughter and me travelled to
Roermond,
Province Limburg, in the southeastern part of the
Netherlands.
The girls liked to visit the local shopping facilities and I paid a visit to an old friend, who lives there.
Roermond is bordered by the
Maas / Meusse River to the west and Germany to the east.
Rob (my friend) and I took his MG for a half an hour drive downstream.

We visited a small market town called
Kessel to have lunch in a nice tavern (
De Rozetuin = Rosegarden).

After lunch we had a little photo walk.
Kessel is dated back to the 10th century, situated at the foot of a
motte-and-bailey castle. Later the motte became
Kasteel de Keverberg.

In 1944 the German Wehrmacht burned the castle down. About 70 years later (November, 2015), the reconstruction of the castle was finished.
We paid a visit to the nearby cemetery ...

Most of the time we sat on the walls of the castle, just watching the boats go by and enjoying the picture-perfect weather ...
