The 1st FWer's Ridgeway Ramble
« on: July 24, 2011, 05:19:04 PM »
Implying, of course, there's going to be another.

Yesterday, Paul, Paul, Lara and I met on the Ridgeway. I hope everyone else enjoyed it as much as I did and I'm certainly up for another sometime. Here's a few results from me, maybe a few more to follow.

The two Pauls...

and my version of what they were taking.

And a few others...

Another fine series Mr R!  :)

Good of you to arrange this, I may well join you on the next one (and try and grab that Leica back off Paul)

Yes, I had look through your (ex) M6. We did a comparison between it and my ZI over lunch.

Nice shots, Peter. I'm having the films processed this week so, with a bit of luck, the results might be available next weekend. (Chops, the M6 is far too precious to be going anywhere, matey!!)

It was a great day out - even if my knees were screaming a bit towards the end (nothing strenuous, just that I have very dodgy knees that don't enjoy any form of exercise!).

The 4th and 5th shots are my faves. Lunch was a great venue (although my amphibian-loving wife had a bit of a sense of humour failure when she saw frogs on the menu). To be honest, I don't blame her as frogs are not part of the human food chain as far as I'm concerned.

Really looking forward to the next instalment...

Just a quick thank you to Peter for organising what was a wonderful day out and to Paul and Lara for being such great company. Have only digi snaps at the mo but hope to develop my film this week which hopefully will include Lara's clandestine meeting with a BULL!

I loved it so much that after splitting up I went back to our starting point and did the whole of the mornings walk again!

I can only echo Paul M's comments about the company - which was excellent - and Peter's choice of venue for lunch was inspired. My films are now in for processing so, with a bit of luck, I might have something for the coming weekend thread....

I think this was about the time Lara noticed the Kentucky Fried Frog on the menu.

Great  work, Peter.

Oh, I'd go for the frog - those frogs have had it coming to them for a while now  ;D

Lunch!? Now you're talking. I see you forced Paul to quaff a beer  ;)

Great stuff, people and well done to Mr Angry for setting this up; I'm very much inclined to make myself available for next years. Can't wait to see some more results.

Great images and I must say I'm quite jealous! There's no filmwasters where I am or where I'm moving. I guess I'll have to get off of my butt all alone then ;)

Grenoble, France. I really need to brush up on my French now.

I think we were thinking more like next month... or, at least, sometime this year.

Maybe the same weekend as the FW get together in Oxford??? I'm open to suggestions.

Don't worry about that, you'll be speaking French in no time... Frenchmen won't give you any chance not to :)

Alors Urbain, montre nous ces belles images ;)

My standard combination for a long time now has been XP2, rated (usually) at ISO200 and developed in Paterson Aculux, 15 mins at 20 degrees.

Peter, you read my mind. I think meeting up on the Ridgeway during the FW weekend away would be a great idea and give people even more incentive to participate if they can make it.

Yes, it will be fun getting the car registered, a bank account, internet connection and what not. But we will manage, I hope.

Hi Urban.

Shrug your shoulders, mumble incoherently whilst maintaining a quizzical look and wave your arms around a lot - you'll fit in no problem...... ::)

Oh, and wear a Breton sweater, black beret, string of onions, smoke stinky gauloises cigarettes and change your name to Johnniged. Hopefully, that's covered all the ever-so-slightly offensive Anglocentric French stereotypes.

Also, when you drive, you need to make excessive use of the horn while saying loudly "Tasse toi pauvre connard" (get out of the way you idiot) :D

Also, drive stick shift (automatics are for sissies in France), and find a way to drive, shift and move your arms a lot while driving in heavy traffic  ;D

If you want tips, I can give you tons as we're pretty much used to making funny imitations of Frenchmen around here ;)

Besides, my mom's uncle was French and my cousin's father also is :)

If you have an iPhone, you can always get out of a rut by using the iTranslate Plus app. It does voice recognition and multiple language translation on the fly... just like in Star Trek and Dr. Who.

Leon / Francois,

Nice one...! I work for a major French corporation and there are a number of cultural differences we have some fun with...!! All in the best possible taste, of course.  ;)
