It's Been a Good Night
« on: January 06, 2011, 10:15:56 PM »
Turns out the world isn't always a dark and hideous place after all.
 ;)

I'm sitting here working on the next version of Foodwasters.com, sipping Chase vodka and a cold Choue Blonde (not in the same glass!) listening to the incredibly wonderful "Slade in Flame" album for the first time since I was a kid in the 1970's when I'd sneak listens to my Dad's vinyl copy....ah, enough of that as I could go on for hours on the subject of half-remembered melodies and the fact that "Far, Far Away" is obviously one of the best songs ever written, but I thought Phil might appreciate a bit of background music to add context to the next part.

Anyway, a few days ago I'd done what I do every few weeks, to whit; search evilBay for Polaroid film deals. I put my usual top price on a few packs of 665 and then forgot about it. For whatever reason I won all of them and am now the proud owner of 3 packs of unopened 665 for £47 (£14.83 each plus p+p). WTF? How come situations like this come to pass?

"Hello World, Ed here. You should all be bl**dy ashamed of yourselves for not bidding this film up a bit and making me work a bit harder for my pos/neg fix."

OK, I'll admit to being a little tipsy, but I hope you'll bear with me for wanting to celebrate my good fortune with an understanding audience.

Ed, I'm with you! A sweet buy and one of the sweetest tunes - for those on the young side you might enjoy this. A little tipsy just adds to the experience!

Reminds me of an article from an audiophile magazine (another hobby) and within the photo of this dudes gear was an actual full size Dalek in the corner of the room. The owner woke up after a drunken night before home alone to find that he had the item to pay for in his EBay summary.

Good catch and sober up sir.

that's an awesome price. I've had the luck to get 10 packs for 99 USD and then on the other end of the spectrum, 3 for 150 USD and a bunch in between those prices. And I won't even mention those I stopped bidding on due to ridiculously high bids per pack..

The extreme fluctuations of winning bids for film with similar exp dates is quite astonishing...

Wow! That's a great night in my book!

And a comeback for Foodwasters......I'm thrilled to hear that!    :)

Something that has confused/concerned me for years about that song, what had Noddy had before even getting kissed?

I've my own idea, but the combination of Noddy Holder and what I think the lyrics are paints quite a dark picture!  :o

@ Euge...

Hmmm, not normal to find someone else afflicted with the pursuit of the reproduction of recorded music.

Have a review of the SPJ La Luce in my loft somewhere and if I remember right it was designed by a female surprisingly.... I'm running vintage KT66's at present valve amp wise.

Anyway, Google 'Tannoy Barkingside' for a spy on Audiogon if your inclined.

Sorry for the off topic peeps...

Euge! Good to hear from you on this thread as I was in your 'hood today (well, at the hospital with the kids anyway) so was naturally thinking of you.
