I think the man has a point, but as Leon pointed out if it is of value to someone who are we to judge.
To share an anecdote, once when my wife and I were moving house we had a garage sale to sell some unwanted belongings. Most Londoners would have no concept of what a garage is so to explain it is a big empty cupboard type thing that is outside and you put your car in it. A garage sale is generally held to get rid of all the stuff you have put in the garage which is now impeding your ability to put the car in there.
So we are having this sale one saturday morning and happily selling stuff, my Wife and Mother in Law are working the table at one stage as I was helping people get stuff in their cars, discussing offers on larger items and making tea. Whenever it was quiet I would continue doing chores that needed to be done in regards to moving house, one such chore was rounding up the rubbish in the garage and putting it in the hard waste bin to go out for collection.
Yep you guessed it gang I couldn't find the rubbish that I had left there the night before because someone made my Mother in Law and offer of $5.00 for the rubbish and she said she couldn't possibly let it go for less than 10, she ended up with 8 bucks for it
