Return of the Living Dead weekend edition, 14-16 Jun
« on: June 14, 2019, 01:16:23 PM »
To prove that I haven't died, joined some weird cult, or gone digital (shudder), I will kick off the weekend. I've had a bit of a sabbatical, and in truth am still having it, but spurred by Satish's outreach regarding the NYC meetup, I actually developed and scanned film for the first time in ages, and I can prove it.

So there!
Any man who can see what he wants to get on film will usually find some way to get it;
and a man who thinks his equipment is going to see for him is not going to get much of anything.

I'm going to get my photography certificate from Community College in two weeks! I took some portraits of my classmates with the Intrepid 4x5 before we leave the program.

Can't go to Hawaii without some color film, even with an un-coated lens.  Zeiss Ikon Super Ikonta 531/2 with Ektar 100.

Nice Start all!

Here's a Living Dead themed image from last week's test of a cheap-O Nikon point and shoot. I bought it for a double exposure project I'm doing with friends so I wanted to try a roll of Tri-X through the camera twice to make sure it works.

The image is looking up at a dead Philadelphia elevated railway, and down at the living vegetable planters in my yard. :-)

Very nice start! Jeff, I really like the framing on that one. Very seamless, in my opinion.

Last weekend I had a chance to play with the Contax G1 a little bit. I like the camera, very solid and fun to use. I still need to get used to the focusing system. Unfortunately, I had a lot of completely out of focus shots, to which I hope is only user error, since it's not a "spray and pray" AF camera, like the Canon EOS system. This weekend I'll take my time with it and do a more careful use of it, using tips from the user manual and some internet boards.

Here are some of the results. Kodak Tri-X pushed to 1600 in Arista Premium (F76+).

Grit, congratulations on finishing the certificate program and on the portraits—less surgery, indeed.

From me, three taken while walking around Porto last Wednesday with my Rolleiflex Automat loaded with Fomapan 100 and semi-stand developed in RO9 1:100:

Old people—that is to say, people my age—playing cards, young people celebrating difference, and “A Duela”, the most sincere cafe in Porto (most of the clients were outside, enjoying the sun).

Did someone say Living Dead? Here is some dead film that I am bringing back to life. I got a box of 100 10x12 sheets of Kodak Camera 2000 copy film, expired in 1997. I'm cutting it down to 4x5, so 1 sheet begets 6. That hits my skinflint button in wonderful ways. Anyway, this is just sort of a test shot to see if any kind of image would appear. It is over-developed, but not bad for a start with a completely unknown film.

Here's one developed in the same dilution for only 2.5 minutes.

The British summer. Taken in the same place as last weeks but half an hour later as the storm rolled in.

Great stuff! Especially like Miguel's street shots and Blaxton's cafe.

2 more from the forest testing a petzval lens on my Chamonix. The 1st one is Tmax 400, the 2nd one is Delta 100.

Well done, folks - superb weekend thread. I'm really taken with Irv's and ManuelL's photos. Lovely to see O2Pilot bank as well.

As I'm waiting for some processing to be ready / returned, I've had a trawl through the archive and found these;
