I also got a massive tome on the history of photography - actually a little to large and heavy to sit comfortably on my lap for long; second-hand for £3. I also got some film for Kosmo, along with their funky T-shirt. 4 pairs of winter wooly sock, just in case I ever sufficiently manage to motivate myself to step out into the wilds of the UK in winter. I know - I thought that unlikely too.
Lastly, I spent some Christmas cash ensuring a happy summer- I signed up for the re-born packfilm, mentioned on another thread, savepackfilm.supersense.com. Yes, I agree it's horribly expensive, but much as I enjoy wasting Instax, it's not the same. Too small. Too perfect. Too predictable. I'm not expecting packfilm to be any of those. So, the idea: takes two cameras (remember those days) and waste ordinary film for most of the time, but take a single packfilm exposure to act as a summary of the shoot. That's the plan.
What was missing from Santa's bag was the same thing I request each year - more motivation to waste more film the following year. But next year will be my year to waste more film. I'm going to take film cameras only on all business trips (compact 35mm) and holidays (SLR). It's a start.
