The candy-high weekend thread, Nov 2-4
« on: November 02, 2018, 02:39:30 PM »
Hey all,

I'm laid-up with an ankle injury so I can't walk with my camera this weekend. This is doubly bad because I got a message that the new Ektachrome is on it's way to me!

Since there is nothing new from me, here's something old. A little sweetheart of a pumpkin from 2010. Have a great weekend!

I discovered the formula to get your photo explored on Flickr.  First semi-stand develop Tri-X in Rodinal 1:100 to give it some bromide drag.  Then rinse with hot tap water followed by a rinse with cold tap water then a normal fix.  The shock of hot water gives it a funky grainy texture, I think it actually causes cracks in the emulsion from expanding and contracting.  These were shot with a Kodak Retina I.

Great start, Jeff! Fall is drag racing season in Southern California, the pinnacle being the NHRA Nationals in Pomona. A bit farther to the East is a more intimate raceway, part of the Fontana Speedway complex. This was my first trip to Fontana, which I found to be reminiscent of the local dragstrips in the 1960s, for the annual VW races. Having grown up around V-dubs, it's quite something to see them running 6- and 7-second quarter miles.

These pics bring back memories. I grew up very close to National Trail Dragway in Ohio and my dad and I went to many NHRA events. So fun. Great pics!

Some shots from a week's holiday in Scotland, taken on Velvia 100 in a Fujifilm GA645Zi.

Nice start, everyone.

I'll go and follow suit with some Velvia 100, shot on the Bronica.

And going that fast in a bug must really give you one of those brown pants moments!

Hi all! This is my first time posting pictures here. Took some Northern California landscapes last week; it was my first time using Fuji Acros (I'm afraid I'm terribly late to the party). Mamiya RZ67, Sekor 110. Enjoy!

Welcome, grit. Nice shots. The second shot reminds me of the 17-Mile-Drive. Have you taken it somewhere around Monterey?

Thanks so much, and good eye! It was taken a few miles north of Monterey, in Santa Cruz. The place is called “Natural Bridges.”

I've been there many years ago (and only for a short time) but the look of the coast there is very distinct. It's a nice place, I'd like to go there again (whenever that may be...).

Ok, my contribution this weekend is truly a Nov 2-4 one because I took these shots today in the Harz mountains at a wonderful lake and this is the first time that I developed C-41 by myself (this evening). All shots were taken with my Zenza Bronica SQ-A with the 50mm Zenzanon except for the birch tree which was taken with the 150mm Zenzanon together with the 2x Zenzanon teleconverter (giving me 300mm effectively). I used Kodak Portra 160. I'm not so happy with the birch tree because I forgot to pre-release the mirror like a Bronica newbie. :( So there's a little mirror slap in the picture. But I like the colour so much that I still included it. I developed the Portra with the CineStill Cs41 Kit. I'm ok with the results, however, I have a few white specks that aren't dust but something else and I have no idea what they could be. The colour rendition is absolutely gorgeous, I think. I wouldn't have thought that I would like the Portra for autumn shots. All in all, developing C-41 was an ok experience. Do I like it? Not as much as developing with Caffenol. I also don't like that there're three chemical compounds that need to be collected and disposed of properly at a special waste collection facility. I really prefer working with B/W and Caffenol where I only need to collect and dispose of the fixer at a special waste facility. But it was nice not to have to wait for the lab to develop the film. I'm going to use up the rest of the developer and then I'm going to decide whether my C-41 journey will continue or not. :)
