I'm liking what I'm seeing from P30 alpha. The landscape shot is nice though I imagine that is smoke providing the atmospheric haze. :(
I have a couple of shots from the Pentax K1000 on Kodak Plus-X Aerecon II dev'd in parodinal 1:25.

Here are three more from my walk-about Ponta Delgada, São Miguel during the last week of August.  All were taken in a Rollei 35 on Tri-X, developed in Caffenol C-L.

Great show again, thanks everybody for sharing.  Many people shots and lovely bw, yeah!

Bryan, you did hit the sweet spot of the P30 with 8 minutes. EI 80?

Here is ma contri. Couldn`t resist to ask the tattoed girl if I could take her picture. But I also should have asked her for her number to set up a shooting. I was probably blinded by the other woman:

Still in a photographic fugue state, so more random stuff from the last nine months or so from me.

"(Cross-processed) Film and how (accidental) exposure affects it." ;D

Both images shot on a Ciroflex with Ektachrome 100VS xpro'd in C41. First image exposed at about -2EV (accidentally), second at +1EV (might have even been +2EV judging by the lack of extreme color shift). That first one looks to me like it's redscaled :D

Bryan, you did hit the sweet spot of the P30 with 8 minutes. EI 80?

Thanks Reinhold, I shot it at EI 50 and developed it for their recommended 9 minutes in Rodinal.  I did that because I read that people were getting better results at 40 or 50.  They have since changed the development time in Rodinal to 14 minutes on their Best Practices sheet.  Next time I may shoot it at EI 80 and do the 14 minute development to see how that works.  I tried a roll in beer but it didn't come out very good.  I would like to see some results in Caffenol to see what adjustments others are making before I experiment with beer again.

Your EI 20 looks great!  I was thinking that they increased the development time with Rodinal to get the EI to 80 but reading your comments it sounds like that may just make it under exposed and over developed.  I did notice some spots on some of my shots but it also had a lot of dust and scratches.  That first roll I shot had me wondering if something was going wrong with my camera or maybe my sodium carbonate somehow became hydrated, it's nice to know it was probably the film.  It is a Beta film, I knew that when I purchased the 5 rolls.  This is the best shot I got developing it in beer but all the negatives looked very under exposed (Chinon SLR with Tessar f/2.8 50mm).  I'm going to have to try EI 20 with beer.

Here a couple of shots - about the only couple that resemble anything recognisable - from a shoot at Harwich on the Essex coast earlier this summer. Ilford PanF 50 via Hasselblad SWC / Distagon 38mm. Not sure is the fault is mine or down to bloody awful processing or a bit of both. I'm very disappointed, to say the least, and just about ready to call it quits.

BernardL and Harvey - Many thanks for your comments.

I'm not too disappointed with the end results, as such, just the lack of control. My disappointment is the fact that I have no idea how the end results happened. The film was, to the best of my knowledge, a fresh roll of PanF and it was exposed correctly.  What I wanted was a negative I could work with.  What I got back was something that's "interesting" in its own way but not remotely what I'd set out to achieve. Consequently, I have no idea how to recreate this effect - even if I wanted to.

I must admit that the texture is quite amazing.
There's a few things that could cause something like that.
It could be a film problem.
It could be the backing paper's black ink that's sticking to the emulsion.
It could be that the film is older than expected, was subjected to humidity or just bad storage conditions.
None of these three are replicable.
But it could also be caused by chemical contamination of the developer. I know that adding fixer to the developer can cause excessive grain and all sorts of weirdness. This might be part of the problem.

That's tough Paul. I'm with you in that I hate it when this sort of thing happens and you've no idea why. It looks very similar to the problem I was getting with Rera Pan a while back (I'll see if I can find an example and attach it). I found it got considerably worse if the film wasn't processed promptly after exposure. A few days would make a difference. How long was it between exposure and development of your film? I put it down to a film issue, whether due to defective manufacture or bad storage I don't know but a more recent batch of Rera Pan hasn't exhibited the the same effect (yet!).

I have read that Ilford Pan-F 50 needs to be developed soon after shooting it, the image starts to degrade over time.  I'm not sure why this is or how soon it needs to be developed.

I shot some mildly expired (a couple of years out of date, but kept in the freezer) Pan F over a Yosemite weekend last Fall. Lab processed a week or so after exposure. Seemed to be a good B+W mate alongside Velvia 50.

Ilford says within three months for Pan F+. I wouldn't wait that long personally, especially if the film was old and/or was exposed to heat. I find Pan F+ considerably less tolerant than FP4+ and HP5+; if I want slow I'm more inclined to use FP4+ with a filter.

Thanks Peter.  The film was exposed a few months ago but I've never had such hideous and unexpected results from Ilford products and I've had some that's taken a lot longer to process - though it's mostly been XP2 Super, not PanF.

The film actually degrades faster after exposure. The exposed silver becomes unstable.
They say that we should freeze all exposed film right after exposure if we don't plan to process it right away.

It does surprise me that a 50 ISO film can be so sensitive after exposure. I would have expected this from a 3200 ISO film, not 50.

Hi Aksel.

Thank you - but I'm not giving it a second thought.  It's down to experience - but I'll be thinking long and hard about future film usage and even how much of my time I devote to photography.  I don't envisage being without a film camera of some sort but the way my work / home life balance has deteriorated in recent months, it's impossible to justify wasting the time, effort and money to produce garbage like that.  I have to be realistic.  I'm not a gifted photographer.  I have to try really hard to get something that doesn't disappoint me and it feels like a losing battle.  I'm too much of a control freak to be prepared to risk being disappointed to this degree again.

Hi Paul, my advice for what it's worth is don't think about it, don't try to come up with some bolt-from-the-blue answer. Just put it all to one side and get on with doing something else you enjoy, one day you'll realise you've made a decision without having to sweat over all the pro's and con's.

Not what you would expect from the PanF / SWC combo but I like it!
Hope you find the cause of it  :)

I've been in a photographic lull lately myself, for no particular reason I can identify, but I get that the disappointment with sub-par results (by personal standards only) adds to the inertia. Based on what you've said, the only advice I can offer is to simplify. If you want control, remove unnecessary variables. Take the camera and lens you are most comfortable with, load the film you have the most experience with, and use that exclusively for a while. Might as well maximize your chances of getting something you're happy with in the limited opportunities you have for photography.
Any man who can see what he wants to get on film will usually find some way to get it;
and a man who thinks his equipment is going to see for him is not going to get much of anything.

Sounds like good advice to me.

Hmmm, that´s a tough one. My simple way of thinking, does it matter in a year from now? If yes I tend to conduct a scrutiny of some sort, if possible together with someone I trust. Really hope you find a way of wasting film that gives you joy!

Embrace happy accidents?

I like that shot

I understand you want to figure out what happened but there are not many endeavors where chance and things going all wrong can result in something moving and beautiful
