Venice beach
« on: November 01, 2007, 02:04:23 AM »
At the end of a commercial shoot I had the opportunity to visit LA and meet Filmwaster co-founder Susan, who graciously played host to my visit. Thanks Susan. I had a great day. But it was a very unusual Los Angeles that I saw. The smoke from the extensive fires blanketed the city. The air was choked, the light had an eerie glow. Even the thriving Venice beach was next to deserted. Weird.

that is interesting. i've seen the same thing here in arizona (and in utah) when there are large or many fires. this was the grand canyon a couple years ago...big fire on the north rim. last time i was at arches in utah in, i think, 2003, there were fires all over the state. lots of haze.

Not unlike any normal fog I guess.
It obscures details... In my pic creating a flat 2D effect, or in your case, highlighting the 3D layers

Awesome, looks like some interesting conditions for photos nonetheless. Great shot, DB.

It was great to hang with you for the day, DB.
Glad you arrived back safe and sound.

Wow--Eerie shot.
And to think we were out there breathing all those yummy pollutants in. Mmmmm-mmmmm-good. :)

I've got a few disposable vacation pics of you. Just need to find the time to scan them and I'll post.

Best from the not so hazy Southwest. :)

Uh-oh.  I have a memory of goofing around under a palm tree. Did I write a no-publication clause into that model release????

 ::) um..... maybe?

Good thing that top notch lens in the disposable made you look more like and ink splot than an actual person or I might have a law suit on my hands, huh?. :)

I love the high key look of this rather etherial shot Don.
I won't ask what "goofing around under a palm tree" entails, but I am a little intrigued!  ;D

Don, you've shamed me by getting your Venice Beach photos out before I finished editing the podcast (both captured on the same day). Great to see one of them though; it's lovely...I'm also very much looking forward to seeing a hazy you goofing off hazily under a hazy palm tree  :D

Cameron: Peel Apart is a good place to be. Congrats!!  :-*  :-*

Well put it this way, didn't you ever think it was time for a remake of Gilligan's Island?

Love that feel there Don. Smoke on the beach looks a bit strange, the results here though are really nice...
