Ferrania P30 Alpha
« on: February 01, 2017, 06:13:11 PM »
I just got this message from Ferrania since I'm part of the Kickstarter.  It looks like they are trying to generate some revenue while they are testing the equipment.  This is a two layer ISO 80 black and white film that is really the first two of 16 layers they need for the E6 film.  It sounds like they are close to coating for the E6 film as well.  I just signed up to keep my original rewards and receive a discount on 5 rolls of P30.  Well see how it develops in beer.

Thanks for posting, Bryan.

I'm not part of the Kickstarter - though I wish I was.  I actually fancy that P30 more than the slide film, if I'm honest.  I've seen the video and it didn't seem clear if they'll put P30 into long-term production or if it's just an interim step and will be discontinued once producing the slide film is feasible. Make sure you post some of the P30 results.... ;D

Well see how it develops in beer.

Had a laugh at this.

I opted to switch out and receive two rolls of the black and white stuff.

I'm staying in for the Super 8 film.  I ran out of Ecktachrome 100D last year so I'm kind of desperate right now.  At least I still have some Ektachrome in Regular 8mm.  By the end of the year I should have two new choices for Super 8 with Ektachrome coming back.

I opted to stay with my original selection of color film but will definitely be pre-ordering P30. I like the tone of the sample photos.

I just got in touch with Ferrania and they wrote back and confirmed that their shop will open later this month and that, although stocks will be limited initially, customers will be able to buy film directly from them.

Also, P30 Alpha is "limited edition" but do they intend to have P30 around for "the long term".

Add that production of slide film and Super 8 will be coming on-line later in 2017 and it all looks like very positive news.....

I want to swap my slide film for the P30 but have not had the email with link to change it, but they say people who helped with the Kickstarter will get lifetime discount on P30 so they must be making it for a long time to come

For those on the Kickstarter program that opted to stay with the original pledge plus buying the P30, they will be given a membership that entitles to discounts for all Ferrania products for lifetime on their website shop.

I backed them twice with two Kickstarter accounts and opted to stay with my original perk in addition to ordering some P30. Do I get a double discount in the future?  ;D Hoping they don't nullify one.

Now I'm daydreaming of holding some prints of my shots with the look of mid-60s Italian cinema.

Didn't back this project because I just don't use slide film. That said I'll buy a couple of rolls if they put it on the market just on the general principal that new film production should be encouraged and supported. They would probably have a ready market if they brought back 126 film in B&W so all those hording their Kodak 500's with the Schneider lenses and Compur shutters would at long last have something to shoot in them.

I totally missed the bus on this one...so would be very interested in seeing what you all think of the P30.
I'm keen to try it out as well, but since I didn't back the KS, will have to wait until it's available to the general public.

I hope to get some P30 from a friend who backed the KS and see how it will work in Caffenol. But I'm afraid the rush will be tremendous. Great development anyway. Better than waiting for Santa.

Just ordered a few rolls.

If you're having problems with accessing the shop, try a different browser.
Got nothing but a blank page until i fired up a PC and ran Edge.
If you're using Chrome, you're probably getting nothing!

Bit of a SNAFU, there.

Didn't have any problems with Chrome and Win10.

But I backed out of placing an order when I saw the postage cost. OK if I was buying 10 maybe but for a small number of rolls that makes it expensive.

Ordered my 10 rolls today after some trouble with the store yesterday and today. I had the blank page issue, too, but I believe it's my local DNS cache since it worked on my cell phone over the cell towers.

When I ordered they were having a problem with their email confirmation.

Quote
Hi Bryan,

Apologies for the late response, we are answering each and every message thoroughly and in the order they were received.

At the time of your order, we had discovered a bug with email confirmations not being sent to some users. This has since been fixed, but it was not possible to send confirmations retroactively.

In the attached screenshot, you can see that we have your order in our system.

Confirmed - and THANK YOU!!

cheers,
The FILM Ferrania Team

Some test shots from the production run are on the Ferrania site.  Click on a photo then mouse over it to see how they developed it.

I must admit that their samples look pretty good. Now we have to see how it reacts to slightly sloppier processing...
