« on: October 07, 2016, 10:58:48 PM »
From the Phoblographer blog http://www.thephoblographer.com/2016/10/06/berggers-new-pancro400-offers-new-look-black-white-noir/#.V_gZ-2PU9Hg

This may be old news to some but this is the first I'm hearing of it.

Not heard of that company before, but this looks like good news. Given that words like 'actuance' don't mean anything to me, i can someone explain whether this film is going to fill a gap in the market, or is it similar to something that's already available?

I don't know. All I know is that Bergger has been around for a long time. It is mostly popular in France.
I've never seen their products cross the pond.

Film is the vinyl record of photography.

Great news.

Bergger has been around for a while - available from the Linhof place in Southend as far as I know.  the 35mm film is excellent - very wide tonal range.  I saw some prints at an exhibition printed traditionally from 35mm (a slower emulsion, from memory) but it didn't strike me as any "better" than PanF - just a bit different.  However, I'd heard rumours that they were bringing out a 120 version and that has got my attention.

Obviously, we'll have to wait for one of our more gifted printers to compare with other 400 ISO emulsions but I'm hopeful it'll be at least as good as the more modern films like TMax, Delta, etc.

What I'd like to do is compare its curve with other films, especially Neopan400.
The only way they really have to make a place for themselves in the market is to give the film a different spectral response than the Ilford and Kodak offerings.
