Wasting film in bigger batches!
« on: September 29, 2007, 11:26:54 PM »
I wanted to share some of the results from a pinhole experiment that's working out pretty well.  I've built two pinhole cameras, one from a paper box that exposes 4 sheets of 4x5 at a time, and another camera from a diaper box and wipes box that exposes 12 sheets of 4x5 at a time. The ultimate goal is to use black and white film then contact print Van Dyke Browns.

12x 4x5 at once... I can imagine your film account! Nice result though for sure...

warren - these really are good, and very innovative too - I really like the b&W one ... it doesnt hit you immediately as to what the pic is  but suddenly you realise and it's great.  - I'm very keen to see how you get on with the idea.

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate the positive feedback. At this stage I didn't want to get too far down the road just because the camera works without thinking about whether the results as a whole are successful. I've been really pleased with the results so far.

As for the film supply, we had a film vault go south in the photographer's area, with many boxes of film getting wet in the process. They were generous enough to pass all the out of date film with damaged boxes my way (10+ 50 sheet boxes of C-41 and E-6). This windfall helped spur this project on, and that's why the majority of it at this point is in color!

I think these are sooooo wonderful and inspiring. I'm doing a pinhole workshop with some A level students (17 year olds) next month, and it would be great to try this with them. Would you mind?

Go for it! I can't claim this as any kind of original idea and I'm flattered to spark anyone to do the same. Thanks again.
