Please can anyone suggest a new website host?
« on: September 15, 2007, 01:56:40 PM »
I have had my photo website (not blog) with Photium for a year now but  I want to change as I am finding the templates and options limited on my package and to move up a package would cost a lot of money (already costs me ?80 a year!!)
Can anyone suggest a good host? I dont know enough about html to build my own unfortunately.   ???

If you just want to make an album set the easy way, you could always try Jalbum
Its free, works very well, has tons of templates. All you need to do is find a server to host it.

Your ISP might have basic web hosting included with your subscription. Jalbum will be perfect for the task.

Cheers guys, will look into those.
Realised I didnt really give much info on my post but what I am using it for is purely photos, enabled with a buy it now button on the galleries but I dont really need that.
I liked photium as it was british, created for photographers and fine when I started it but I want a bit more layout freedom now, for less money! (I know, I want the world on a plate too...preferably with cake?!!)  ;)
I really like the simplicity of a blog layout, kind of want to echo that on a website.

All you might need is an ISO with the Pixelpost software installed.
If you want to check out every type of content management systems out there that are also open source (a.k.a. free), check out http://opensourcecms.com/

Cool thing about this site is that you can try them on for size, even the admin panels are open to the public. The system auto reinstalls every 2 hours so it's always fresh.

Hiya. I can endorse Susan's Bluehost tip. We host Filmwasters on Bluehost and I was so impressed that I decided to move my personal online empire onto Bluehost a bout 6 months ago (http://edwenn.com etc.).

They offer a variety of differently priced and featured packages, but I think even the basic one comes with oodles of functionality - inlcuding several photo gallery and blog packages which are all pretty idiot proof. The galleries here at FW are almost straight out of the box using the gallery software supplied by Bluehost and a design template that I installed from the web.

Fasthosts have been pretty good with me.  Don't tend to be the cheapest but you seem to get more space than many others.

I've just found under a big pile of paper on my desk an ad for 1&1 hosting. They have packages starting at 4.99$ (as of... 6/30/2006... wow! that's an old paper :) )

Might be worth checking out... though the place where I found it kind of tells you how much I have checked out their services :)

Here's the link: 1and1.com

Thanks all, its a wild wild world of web out there!
Maybe I am chickening out but have decided to stick with Photium, for now anyway.  They are updating their templates so soon have more choice and their customer service is superb and Will (the guy on the other end of the wires) will change the HTLM for me on my site if I want to, so its getting there.  After looking around they may not be the cheapest but they are certainly not the most expensive (of photo specific hosts anyway)!
Glad to have found expressions blog though!
