Might work for me as long as it's over the weekend. What are the dates you're looking at?

If the weekend suits you it would be the weekend of the 26th.

I'm playing with my band both days of the 26-27th weekend. Daytime, outdoor gigs in community gardens. I'm not asking for free publicity pictures, but I'm just saying that a live brass band outdoors in the daytime in NYC in and around community vegetable gardens might not be the worst thing you could photograph....

Smells like opportune synchronicity.  I'd even travel to Queens for this.

Just to put the information out there, here's where & when we're playing:

9/26, 1-3pm: La Plaza Cultural garden, SW corner of Ave C & 9th St
9/27, 4-5pm: LaGuardia Corner Garden, SE corner of LaGuardia St & Bleecker St

The 9/26 gig will hopefully incorporate some marching around the general area, but the 9/27 gig will definitely be very static, playing for an hour inside the garden in question.

The Marching would go well with the film-wasting walking thing. Otherwise it's a film-wasting standing thing. Is this a brass band as in a New Orleans style brass band?

Yes it is! Instrumentation-wise, that is. As far as musical content, we are a Nirvana cover band. I'll let the music speak for itself ... go to our website and click on "free music" to listen to us!!

Nice horn section.
Reminds me of the last show I went to where the girl on the tuba actually played louder than the drums!

My tuba player (who is mostly an orchestral tubist) told me that the loudest orchestral instrument is the bass trombone. Something to do with the shape and ratio of the bell, and also I assume due to the mostly cylindrical bore. In my experience, trumpet sounds louder, but that's probably due to the register, not actual SPLs it's pushing out.

WOW. That was an awesome NYC "Hey I'm Walkin' Here" hang :) I'm jealous that the rest of you guys had 2 extra hours to waste film (while I was busy shoving a trumpet in my mouth) and I feel like the 2 measly rolls I wasted after that were no match to your combined filmwasting skills :( But I look forward to seeing the images you captured of my band!! (totally not using you guys as free press ;) ) Oh, by the way can I use your photos for social media purposes ? :D :D :D

Yes, I imagine shooting and playing trumpet at the same time isn't quite the same thing as walking and chewing gum ;) Sorry you missed out on shooting time, but it was SO much fun watching you guys and following you around like traveling groupies! If I get anything halfway decent, you are more than welcome to splash it around the Interwebz. :)

Had a blast meeting Limr, 02 Pilot, LA, Satish and various brass toting musicos. Much film "wastering" was achieved with Lubitel, Zorki, Leica, Hawkeye, Rollei, Ciroflex, Yashica, Canonet...  You know, you've not seen a brass band in action until you've seen a brass band assault another brass band from across a Lower East Side avenue with tuba, trumpet, trombone and sax blasting Nirvana while their drummer wails on his marching snare and a mailbox. Really fun time, thank you all.

Yes, a very good outing. Nice to see some new faces, both visiting and local. I've just finished developing yesterday's work, so we'll see if anything noteworthy comes of it once it dries and I get it on the scanner. Stay tuned....

I developed my 120 roll, but other than a blurry shot of Adam, none of the other negs look any good :\ My 135 roll is earmarked for RT C41 development, per Reinhold, which I shall probably do tomorrow.

My b&w is still in the Zorki but I have a roll of color that I'll bring to the lab and have scanned in a couple of days. Have 6 shots left in the Lubitel and I'll finish those off so I can bring it at the same time.

I forgot to mention that we witnessed three brass bands within a three block radius (odd for even the Lower East Side). The Nevermind Orchestra, some brass band playing for Oktoberfest in a bar and a third leading a wedding party down the street as Satish, LA and I were heading west.

Turns out I was a bit pessimistic about the roll of 120. Ciroflex Model D, Ektachrome E100SW shot around 50, xpro in C41. Some of the underexposed shots I had to do some ham-fisted color correction (dialing down the reds and oranges that get accentuated when the exposure is dialed up).

Post-NMO drinks, with nothing in focus

Funky pseudo-vintage color in those xpro shots. I never shot much color with that camera, so I have no idea what you'd expect from standard processing, but it seems pretty well-suited to the cross-processed look.

I've got more to run through post-processing, but I've also got work to attend to, so for the moment you'll have to be satisfied with a short series from Tompkins Square. All with Leica IIIc, Jupiter-12 35/2.8 on HP5+ in Caffenol C-H(RS):
