Postcard Exchange 2015
« on: July 15, 2015, 10:35:34 PM »
Ed has said we can play again this year so I'd like to formally open the 2015 Filmwasters Postcard Exchange.

Whether you're a seasoned player or new to the idea it's a lot of fun to share your work amongst like-minded folk. Details are as follows:

1)   Sign up by August 30 if you want to play.
PM me your name and postal address with country and also your e-mail address.
I need your e-mail address to contact you since the forum only allows two private messages an hour.  If you don't send me your e-mail, it will take longer to get your list of names.

2)   Names will be sorted the week after sign-up closes.
Since we have Filmwasters from around the globe, I'll sort and divide the collected names into manageable groups (usually about 12 per group) to keep the cost of printing and postage at a manageable level. If you want to send to everyone who has signed up not just those on your list please let me know when you sign up. I will regularly update this topic with numbers of players.
Next I'll make a list of the sorted names and addresses and send them to everyone that signed up. Lists will be with you by September 6.

3)   Postcards should be sent out by October 1
Cards can be printed in the darkroom, with inkjet printers or commercially on any paper (6x4 or 5x7 inches is recommended)
The important thing is the negative used to make the print must be analogue capture be it film, paper negative or Instant film.

The subject matter is entirely up to you and it's not a competition either, so have fun with it!

You can send a copy of the same print to everyone on your list, or you can make different prints for each person, it's up to you.

Details about the image such as location, camera and film type/capture written on the back with a short message are appreciated but that's up to you.

Stamp, address and then sign the cards so we know who they are from and drop them in the mail.

This is always a lot of fun, so don't miss out.

Once again the important dates to remember are:

August 30 = last day to sign up.
September 6 = names sorted into groups and lists sent to participants.
October 1 = deadline to send out your cards.

Any questions just let me know or reply to this topic.

That's it!

Odd number alert!!!
We have 19 names on the list so who wants to step up and be number 20?
Participants who wish to send to all will be added to both lists so please let me know if you intend to do this (Manuel I've noted you).
Thanks

Okay, time ladies and gentlemen. I will now get all names together and ask Mrs H to draw the names for each list. I'll let you know when all lists are going out. People who wished to send to all will appear on both lists and your own name will appear on your list for completion. Please aim to get your cards in the post by October 1.
Thanks to all of you who have joined in.

Okay, Mrs H has done her bit and lists are on their way. I'm waiting for a couple of email addresses and I have contacted those concerned. If you haven't received your list within the next day or so let me know.
There are 12 names on each list (including your own). If you have spares or want to send additional cards please can you post on here for others who would be interested in sending/receiving.

Can I just say thank you to all who offered to take part. Now let's put the art on the doormats of the world! ;D

My order will hopefully be placed tonight. It's all set up on the website but there's something weird going on with the preview (although their proof looks normal) and I just need to talk to an actual person to make sure it's just a weird glitch and that the cards don't print all messed up.

Thanks Diane. I'm certainly no master cyanotypist, but I take a lot of shots on goal so a few are bound to be good just by chance!

Got Matt's card today. Beautiful photo.

Hey Shaun, when this is all done, can you start a thread for people to post the images they sent? I am on both lists this year, but I remember thinking last year that I sure would like to see what everyone sent. I know mine are photos I have posted in other threads, but it might be nice to have everything collected in one place.

Just a thought.

Nice idea James, show 'em what they missed!
Just thinking about the how, should the senders post their own? It'll need to be timed so as not to ruin the surprise for anyone who hasn't received that card yet. Perhaps leave it for a couple of weeks after sending and then post, should be safe?

My cards have been ordered and should arrive by the 28th. In the meantime, I've received 2 beee-YOOOOO-tiful cards :) I've also got in the works a hopefully nice way to display three years' worth of FW postcard exchanges.

Three cards received over the last couple of days.
Big thanks to Diane, Matt and James... 3 more different images you couldn't imagine.

I've just realised, the end of September marks one year since I signed up to the forum, so in my imagination, all you lovely people are sending me lovely anniversary cards... ;D

Anyway, After a good few hours in front of the printer, I've got a selection of cards I'm happy with, so will be posting them off soon.
The cards I bought were packaged as postcards, but are not backprinted as a traditional postcard, but hey-ho, at least they're the right shape and size, and I think I shall take gsgary's advice and put them in envelopes.
