Big News! Pakon lives!
« on: April 01, 2015, 03:23:14 PM »
I don't know if you're like me, but I've been lusting over a Pakon F135 Plus film scanner for quite some time.
But since they're getting to be quite popular nowadays, prices have been climbing up and the number of units going down.
But out of this comes some good news!
Chinese company Yúrén jié (愚人节公司) has announced yesterday that they plan on making a new and improved Pakon like scanner! It should be similar to the original but use totally new up to date hardware. The prototype they showed features increased resolution and faster operation. It will be compatible with modern versions of Windows and use a USB 3.0 connection. On their press release, they mention that it will be packaged with new improved software for both Mac and PC. They claim it should sell for around 350 US$. Release is planned for early 2016.

I don't know if you're like me but I can't wait to see how it turns out!

Nice! That's a decent price for a top end scanner. They should put a "Recommended by Francois" sticker on it and give you one for free.

Not really. I have no idea what a Pakon scanner was/is, how much they might cost, or whether it's actually a brand of foot powder. I was just trying to join in and play with the cool kids.

Foot powder? I need some of that. Is it made from actual real feet?

Tony, WHAT a write-up!! Damn  :) I know you've had a lot of practise from all your work on the Wiki, but that is still one hell of a piece of writing. Thanks.

thanks, I don't think it's that impressive, just detailed and a bit dry. It was originally a smaller more general review for the magazine. But I kept getting more precise questions about it from facebook and other places. There is so little documentation that is still available, so I kept adding more details until the post was too big as I started to add photos, so I sectioned it off and divided in half, that didn't last, logically reorganized and added other sections and expanded those as well. So it's pretty much EVERYTHING I know about the company and the scanner.

I must admit that pakon is still a bit of a mystery in a sense. It's too bad in a sense that they don't remake a new model. Even if it sold for around 500$ it would still sell like hotcakes. When you look at it, the scanner in itself is not that complicated. It's the software that does all the magic.
