Well, this is another first for me!
Over the last three days, I have been working on an Android version of my Old Film software. Now while the previous version was nice, this one has the added benefit of being installed on your phone. When in the field, no problem, just take out the phone and fire-up the program.
Not being a programmer, I managed to re-write the software to port it to the new operating system using a new programming language (and without any prior knowledge of how to do that!)
For those who are not aware of what Old Film Compensator is, it's a program that estimates relatively accurately the sensitivity of expired negative films. It works well with color negatives and its recommendations mostly prevent the brown tone you usually get from expired films. The program calculates the most precise sensitivity derivation, locates it on a scale of standard DX sensitivities and suggests the closest full value. It's easy to use and pretty foolproof. While not as precise as a full sensitometric test would be, I find that it gets to be close enough to get decent results. For me, it's the simplest way to use expired film without compromising results.
It's been tested under KitKat and Jellybean and it works just fine.
You might be wondering why I'm not using the Google Play app store? The answer is simple: they want 25$ upfront for the hosting, a service I'm not sure is worth it for something I'm essentially giving away.
If anybody is interested in trying it just let me know and I'll put up a link to my Google Drive with instructions on how to install it
Here's a screenshot of the program so that you get an idea of what it's all about. It might not be pretty but it works very well.
Here's the download link too
