Vote early and vote often!
« on: March 19, 2015, 12:46:12 AM »
So, our very own 02Pilot is in the running to win a Leica! He will never plug this himself, so I've appointed myself to be his official cheerleader. I never actually made the squad in school, but that's only because I can't do a cartwheel, and those aren't required to be an Internetz cheerleader  ;D

The contest asked for a picture to be taken with a 35mm point and shoot camera. There were about 200 entries. The author of the blog, Hamish Gill chose the Top 10 and has put those 10 up for a popular vote to determine the winner. 02Pilot's entry is in the Top 10 and it's bloody fantastic!

And he's also in 2nd place! It's a close one, too - at the moment, 11 votes separates the top two, and 10 votes separates 2nd and 3rd.

If anyone is so inclined to help our fellow Filmwaster (#6. Andrej) along, voting can be done here: http://www.35mmc.com/13/03/2015/leica-iiic-competition-vote-final-10/

Voting does not require registration or being on Facebook or anything, and it appears one can vote again using a different computer (for example, once at home and once at work). Voting also ends on Friday.

Go Team Filmwasters! *waves pom poms* *falls on head while trying to do a cartwheel*

Goooooooooooo, FILM!

I've been told the link above doesn't seem to allow voting. I'm not sure if the link somehow is registering "already voted" or if something is wonky at the moment. Anywho, doing my proper cheerleader duties, I'll provide an alternative. Here's a link to the competition entries: http://www.35mmc.com/category/competitions-prize-draws/

The first link "Vote on the Final 10" is where you should be able to vote.

While I appreciate the cheerleading and any favorable votes that it might produce, I have a feeling that limr's motives might also include getting her hands on said Leica if a) I somehow manage to win it, and b) I turn my back for more than four consecutive seconds. :P But I can live with that. So go stuff that ballot box!

Who, meeeeee?
I'm getting reports that the website is a bit wonky at the moment. Hopefully it will be fixed soon!

I never heard of that podcast, but I don't think I've ever seen it mentioned on the 35mmc site, so I'm guessing it's someone else. Hamish seems like a really nice guy from my limited correspondence with him.

All good then I think the guy who I'm thinking of is Tony Gale. Can't stand that guy.

Site is being weird but I'll vote when its working. Good luck!

Dammit! It appears to think that I've already voted for Andrej :( I even tried your second link, Leonore, from a separate computer and it still had Andrej's name bold & italicized without any way to vote for him (or anyone else). Maybe that's because they've already decided that he won? :D let's hope so!

I'll try again tomorrow.

I tried voting from a PC, iPad and iPhone but it doesn't seem to change his total.  By the way, I would have voted for his photo even if I didn't know it him.

Thanks for all the kind words and support. For those who had trouble voting, I emailed Hamish last night and advised him of the problem - it's now been fixed.

Hmmm, that might make a good entry in the Euphamisms thread. "The shutter and mirror slap of the (insert camera name here) was like the sound produced by limr attempting a cartwheel while cheering." Now to find the camera that fits that description...

Hmmm, which camera sounds like it just crashed into the coffee table? ;) The Mamiya 645 has a fairly significant slap. And I do have one, so it would be fitting  ;D

At first I read this as "The Mamiya 645 has a fairly significant slap. And so do I", and I felt lucky that I've never been at the receiving end of that slap :o

The voting page was briefly broken again (and I wouldn't have complained if it stayed broken, since I was leading at that point), but it's working again now and I'm once again behind. Here's hoping it stays working long enough for a few more votes to come in.

Yes, the good news is that the site seems to be working properly.

The bad news is that Timothy Whats-his-face has re-taken the lead. Boooo :P

I wish I were a hacker so I could figure out how to fool the website into thinking I hadn't voted yet. I've tried all of my tricks but none are letting me vote again :(

I think I got at least 3 votes in, trying to figure out how to do a few more.  I want him to have that camera because I know how much I would love to have it.  We could all go to the library and hop from computer to computer voting. ;)

While I cannot officially approve of ballot-stuffing efforts (wink wink nudge nudge ;) ), whatever votes should happen to fall my way are much appreciated.

Oh, and Hamish appears to have extended the voting deadline until midnight tomorrow, 21 March - I'm assuming UK time.

I *am* a low-grade hacker and I still can't figure out how to get more votes in. I even tried turning off WiFi on my phone so that I have a random IP given me from my wireless carrier, and it still says I voted for Andrej (also says I voted for 2 others, which I didn't  ??? ). I'll try again when I'm out & about and see if it lets me vote then...

I have an extension in chrome that lets me port swap to get american and UK ip addresses. I was thinking that would work to trick the site into thinking that more votes are coming than normal.

It does seem to freeze up quite a bit.

Hmm, just refreshed the site and it seems to be working again!

Let's just hope the next time it freezes, it's right before the deadline and Andrej is ahead :D

OK, I cracked it!
Copy the contest's address and do a google search for a free online proxy. Any of them will work as long as it allows scripts.

Proxies didn't work for me. Tried it yesterday. Which one are you using?

But resetting my router works. Picks up a different ip each time I guess. Busy flicking the power switch as I type this.
