scanner help
« on: June 16, 2014, 09:27:04 PM »
Hi all,
Any scanner experts here?

My scanner is putting vertical light green and yellow lines up all the scans, google research says this is dirt on the calibration area, but I have cleaned the screen to within an inch of its life and also taken the top off and blown it with compressed air, still no luck.

anyone had this or any ideas on what may help? It's an epson V330 by the way,

Thanks,
Matt

If the exposure is OK, then it's not the calibration patch. If the streaks are the length of the film strip, it's most probably dust on the CCD sensor.

me being dumb... so can you get top the ccd?

maybe I could turn the scanner half way off through a scan and clean the top of the 'bit that moves' but the CCD is inside that unit isnt it?

Actually, the CCD is inside the optics box. This is a sealed unit held with either clips or screws. When the scanner is off and opened, it can easily be moved by hand.

But the first thing I would do is to simply turn off the scanner, lock the head using the button at the back, put the scanner sideways and give it a few good taps on the side. Hopefully the vibrations will get the dust dislodged and you'll be able to get clear scans.
