Sooooooo.....I'm having a photo show at a small local studio next Friday. It's me and one other woman, who is actually the curator for the studio.

The show is exclusively for instant film. It's called "Polaroid Junkies"

My stuff is mostly on Fuji peel-apart in my Land Camera 100, but I also have some pictures from an Instax Wide. I've got some prints, some enlargements of recovered negatives, and some emulsion lifts, including a couple of collages.

Here's a link for a little press thing in case anyone in the NY area is interested. It's in Brewster, NY, which is easily accessible by train (the studio is a block from the train station) but it's also a hike, so y'all are welcome to come and have a looksee but I won't be offended if you don't

Sean: I've often pondered how well one needs to know another person before you get the whole 'leaky bellows' thing into conversation.

Sh*t!! Did I miss a whole thread about inflatable dinosaurs? I know there was Ailsa's stone dinos from a few years ago....and although she hasn't been back to FW much since then, I still see her for lunch every few weeks so I know she didn't take it the wrong way.....but inflatables? Sounds awesome.

Dinosaurs in graveyards...now we're talking!

(I didn't know about the cemetery or dinosaur thread either, Satish.)

The show opens on Friday the 20th, 7-9pm, with a reception and then there are 'viewing' hours from 12-2 on Sat the 21st, and the following Sat/Sun (28/29).

Yup, Sean, I do. It is a tricky one, though. Those shots were the first I saw it, but when I checked it out, I couldn't figure out where the leak was coming from. I didn't see it for a while, and then the other day I took a few shots and it's there again. I'll have to check it again. Thought it might also be a bit of lens flare?

I'll definitely be taking pictures. Might get a few with the Pola and I'll also have the Instax with me for sure, maybe to get a few Bruce Gilden-inspired candids since I can't shut the flash off

I picked up a folding SX-70 or two and a 360 (I wanted the glass lens and Zeiss finder.) I've had a few boxes of FP-3000B in the fridge since before Christmas (which I bought for my Bronica SQ Polaroid back and never used) and I bought a few packs of FP-100C since they're so cheap on Amazon (though they limit me to buying 3 per transaction [tried buying more on a separate transaction and it limited me to 2, not sure what the deal is.])

I'm sure there will be a bit of a learning curve and I know that the Impossible films (which I bought for the SX-70) are hit-and-miss, but I'm up for a challenge. I bought one SX-70 locally and cleaned it up until the expired pack stopped powering it, the other cameras are eBay acquisitions and I expect to do some cleaning and adjustments on those, as well.

Any tips or things I should look out for?

The best way to check for those leaks is to go in a dark closet with a strong flashlight. You open the camera back, stick your eye in there and start moving the flashlight around the bellows. The hole will always be opposite the location on the picture (image is upside down in the camera).

As for those dinosaurs, it's from a really really old thread on the forum. I think we were discussing photographic clichés or something... or it was something we were ashamed of compulsively shooting... something like that.

Well, the opening reception went quite well, I thought. There were a lot more people than I expected, and people seemed very interested in hearing how the images were done. A lot of people there remember Polaroids anyway but hadn't known anything about emulsion transfers or lifts. There were also some younger people there who were too young to remember the heyday of instant film, so they seemed kind of mystified.

The two pieces of mine that garnered a lot of attention were an emulsion lift collage and it's corresponding "deconstructed" collage made from the recovered negatives of the same prints. I had the Instax with me and snapped a few - nothing really to write home about, just for documentary purposes. Here's one of two "young'uns" looking at the collage and another one of the two pieces (I know it's crooked. Oh well

In total, I had I think 21 or 22 separate "pieces", although some of them were comprised of several prints. I'm hoping to get good pictures of the pictures to put on Flickr, but they'll most likely have to be d****** so I'll only link them here

I shot some HP5+ @ 1600 at the opening. It was interesting to see the different reactions people had, many of them seeming a bit surprised by all the various looks that can be achieved from a single shot; I also think that the obviously related but nonetheless clearly different images were the most interesting part of the show. Those, plus the terrifying Minnie Mouse shot.

Digi's always been OK for "documentary purposes".
Heck, I ain't gonna wait until I finish a roll to brag about a new lens or anything like that!
