Newbie film question
« on: March 25, 2014, 11:51:15 PM »
my Omega D5XL enlarger came with a number of film holders
I recognize all of the sizes except one

included was a holder which has a 40x40 mm opening

to elaborate further the 6x6 MF holder has an opening of 55x55mm
and the 35mm holder has an opening of 24x35 mm

so what film format is the 40x40 holder for?

thx

Could be 127?? That's about a 4x4 image.

never having seen it and having once been told you can respool 120 to make 127 I never thought of that as a possibility
now I don't think that comment about respoolling was accurate

anyways just googled 127 film

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/127_film

and I think that must be what the film holder is for
because the size of the hole in the film holder always seems to be a bit smaller (e.g. 55mm for 6x6)
and 127 film is apparently 46 mm wide

thanks

It's probably made for one of the many formats you can get on 127 film.

Incidentally, 120 can not be directly re-spooled on a 127 spindle without some cutting. 120 is also much longer than 127.

I would happily trade you for one of these Omega enlarger lens plates. I need all three

421-931
421-932
421-933

in case you don't know what they look like
here is the link

http://www.khbphotografix.com/omega/LensMountD5.htm

would also be happy to purchase them if the price is somewhat lower than what KHB is offering

Looks like a 'Super Slide' from 127 film: http://www.a35ss.com/127-slide-scanning.html

I think they were the largest format you could fit in a 'standard' 2" square slide mount that would still fit in a 35mm (24x36) projector.

I thought about superslide too. But I found one laying around the lab and measured it... it's a bit smaller than the film holder.
