Hi everyone. This is trivial to the point of not being worth a mention, but let's try and start the weekend threads on a Friday (and no earlier) from now on, please. I've been meaning to mention this for months and finally remembered.

You can post images on any day of the week (it's exhilarating - you should try it sometime), but let's keep the weekend thread for the weekend, please.

haha, although this week is probably the first week where I am ready to post now, I think this is a great idea.

I have a related question: In the short time I have been here, the weekend thread seems to have expanded from one or two pics per person to sometimes a stream of pics per person. And to be clear, I am as guilty of this as anyone. Is there any consensus on trying to self-curate one's pics, and choose your 'best' pic of the week? I would like to do that, but likely get caught in the feeding frenzy and sometimes release a torrent of pics. While I think it is a good exercise to do as an artist, it is probably not a bad thing to do for the viewer as well. Sometimes when things are busy (and there are tons of pics) I do not devote the time to each pic that I would like. That is entirely my problem

but if everyone posted their one or two faves of the week, I promise I will limit myself as well, haha.

I really liked the thread at the end of the year where we had to post our (singular) favorite pic of the year. I would not mind having to make that choice every week

Ed, as you are making suggestions on when we post, and comments on how many we post?

but would prefer one 1 image per personage per week - except on the rare occasion that only 2 or 3 will do.

One or two per person would be a great idea.

So much for Friday being the start of the weekend...we now have an "early weekend thread". Maybe this could be incorporated into this one to reinforce the point?

I too agree, fewer is often better. But sometimes someone manages to post a handfull of images which complement eachother in such a way it would be detrimental if they were split up. Not been guilty of that feat myself yet. But then again there is the essays forum for that sort of thing.

I mentioned something similar earlier in the year and everyone jumped on me for being too prescriptive and flickr-group-like.

I would prefer weekends on a Friday and 1 picture only. People should be starting their own threads if they have a series to show - or using the photo essays section.

yup I agree with the Friday kickoff !

there does seem to be a rush to START the weekly thread which leads to .... an early start.

1 pic per person is also an idea but a bit limiting IMO.

I like DonkeyDave's pics from this weeks thread and all compliment each other
but I suppose a seperate multiple image thread could be started too ....

Would it be cheating to combine all three pictures into a single file as a triptych? Although I'm sure some people would push boundaries with pentychs and septychs

sound ideas here. I remember a time when I could find the time to really take a good look at every post in the weekend thread and try to leave my thoughts on more than just a few.
there have been fantastic weekend threads but it's just so much

as said, separate threads for multiple photos is the way to go and there would be good room for discussing the shots there too.

also, I thought the prefered language for this forum was english??

Regarding one or many. I still vote for one. However I have a feeling posts in the essay section often get overlooked. Would it be acceptable to post picture essays in the main forum, and then have them moved once the posts have become of age?

I don't think it matters how many pictures someone posts. I think the whole posting on thursday thing started because people were excited about beginning and posting the weekend thread. Again, I could really care less when it starts...it's just a photo thread, don't see any real reason to start policing it and being all anal about it and killing some of the enjoyment for the people posting it. Plus, I have no idea when it is friday in the UK, but I assume it starts before it does here in the US.

Sean, I do know where you're coming from and I take your point about time zones. When Skorj used to post his latest stuff on FW he'd often kick the weekend thread off from Tokyo well in advance of those of us further West, but it was nice to log on to FW on a Friday and see some new 665 action from Japan.

Friday, local time is fine...wherever you are.

With regard to spoiling people's fun, obviously that's the last thing on my mind, it's just an attempt to encourage people to post photos in other threads and at other times. The success of the weekend thread has resulted in fewer photos being posted in threads of their own. As Jonas says, it's becoming quite difficult to comment on people's work because if they primarily post at the weekend and there are often too many photos in that thread to comment on.

Far too much talk and not enough pictures.

So, it was Friday yesterday, it's still the weekend, and here's one pic. No Latin was involved in taking this shot.

The fact that I now hate colour film as much as slide film is pretty much official. This was Ektar in daylight but the colour balance was totally off the wall - I mean, the wall was white but it came out blue. WTF.

Edit: I remembered that unwillingly is not the right word in the intended context and it means "reluctantly"
and I thought of something like "without intention". Sorry, English is my second language.

I'd venture to say that even though English is not your first language, it's better than that of many native speakers. I see many mistakes in posts written by native speakers. Not on this forum (another reason I like it so much!) but in some other haunts of mine.

Perhaps you confused 'unwillingly' with 'unwittingly'? Though 'inadvertently' also does the job.

Fwiw, I vote for one picture for weekend threads that will start on Fridays. I don't like a lot of 'rules' but I do like consistency and 'guidelines'

After thinking about it a bit, I tend to agree with starting on a Friday and limiting it to one image. I'd love to see more threads like the one Ed started recently. Maybe it would really be a good idea to use the "Photo Essays" board just as an archive and encourage people to start posting their "stories" here in the main forum.

Post one photo onto a "Weekend Thread" so long as it happens to be Friday through Sunday - wherever the photographer happens to be..... All other multiple / themed sets to be posted onto Photo Essays board with a bit of accompanying text....

Irrespective of whether the Mods sanction this as a rule, I'll use it to get a bit of discipline into my postings.

I like the idea of limiting the weekend threads. I know on RFF they have a "post the best pic from your most recent roll" thread. Maybe we could approach the weekend threads with the same idea. Pick one image from your most recent session where you sat down and scanned or printed. That gives people who shoot LF a chance to pick from their "roll" of images.

Personally I'm not 100% sold on limiting the weekend threads to 1 image each. Makes no sense to me, really. I'm happy with a small number of images per person - we just didn't want people going crazy and posting multiple images multiple times during the course of the thread. I usually post 2 or 3 when I have anything to contribute and I don't plan on changing that.

Ending on Sunday does make sense however, so let's try and stick to that. Sunday evening, your time zone.
