Been asked to do a 50x40 inch C type - any UK recommendations?

I've gone up to 100 inches in panoramic before, but that's easy as theres a guy 2 miles away with a 48" HP inkjet

this 'has' to be a C type, so looking at Lightjet etc

there is Spectrum in Brighton - but never used them, they are local so I can get the 1GB+ drum scan to them by hand

any recommendations on framing, I've only used conventional glass and wood frame with mounts before, this is to go in a very modern (and large!) home - any experience with framing using perspex etc?

Best place to print is Metro in Clerkenwell, London. They offer a postal service. www.metroimaging.co.uk
Framing with Perspex is fine, but use good quality stuff, preferably with a UV rating. The other option, which I personally like, is mounting on aluminium. Metro offers this service too. It looks very mod and is supposed to have a good life expectancy, but again, use a specialist and get it UV coated. Do not trust this job to an on-line discounter.

I'd 2nd metro imaging, not because I've used them myself but because they produced the prints used on the findings exhibition in birmingham which I've seen and thought the prints were excellent.

I believe that Bayeux also provides what you're after. I have no connection with them I just know of them because they do all the Take A View exhibition images.

You could also try Peak Imaging, or BPD Photech. Not sure how big they go up to.

I'd caution against Peak. I use them for my own snaps and they are fine - good, even. But if I was spending the client's budget (is there a better one to spend?), then I'd go pro. Metro do d&p for punters and pros, but over the last few years they have specialised in exhibition printing. Their large format printing is, for my client's budget, the best money can by. Shipping large prints isn't a problem either - their shipper will be used to handling high-value artwork. But I'd avoid ParcelFarce and get somebody who knows what they are doing. Or a (reliable) man in a van. I know one if you'd like a quote.

Dave, I've used Metro on and off for years and the only thing that's ever put me off them is their price. Other than that they offer an excellent service. I second Zapsnaps' recommendation; it's definitely worth giving them a call.

Hi Dave.

A friend of mine - a professional commercial and wedding / portrait photographer with a serious printer that prints up to 44" wide (to any length you want) will do 40" x 50" prints for about £65.  If more than one is required, he has a discount scale.  He uses Epson paper and proprietary pigment inks.

He's done prints for me up to A2 and they've been excellent.  He can also frame items to whatever size you want. You'd need to talk to him, though.
