This would be a good idea if.....Kodak still supplied 620 spooled film, but they don't!

Most of the box Brownie's extant use 620 roll film. If Kodak is truly interested in being a co-sponser of this contest then they should start production of 620 film and sell it for the same retail as their 120 film. (not 3X the price of 120)

If this sounds a little like "sour grapes" complaining I'm sorry but I have several fine Kodak camera's that use this film size and I am getting sick and tired of sitting in a blacked out bathroom trying to respool 120 onto my limited supply of 620 spools, with sweaty hands and fumbly fingers.

Yes, I do have a Box Brownie. But it's precious 620 take up spool is sitting in my Kodak Tourist, a really fine camera with clean and clear 105mm f4.5 Anaston lens and a working Kodamatic shutter. My other Tourist with the multi-format back mask for 6X6 is also loaded. That takes up all my current supply of 620 spools. Unless of course Kodak would like to support film in deeds, and not words only.

John, no need to respool! Just take a pair of nail clippers and clip off the lip of the 120 spool. They fit exactly. I've done it before.

Yes I did try that with my Tourist but the film jammed and I lost the whole roll getting it out. I think the Tourist is set up specifically to only allow 620 spools with their small holes. The simpler spring clips on the Brownie might work.

Then there is always cutting a piece of photo paper to fit as a one shot. You can even load it under safelight. The ISO for Ilford MGIV is about 6 so it would probably have to be a time exposure in soft light. That would also cut down on the constast which is a problem with paper negatives. Then just contact print the paper negative, emulsion to emulsion to obtain a positive. Or scan and invert in any simple image software. Alternately if you can set the camera on a steady surface you can build exposure by clicking the shutter several times. That should also work with slow paper.

My Hawkeye flash is a model that allows me to use 120 as the feeding roll. Unfortunately that's not true for most other 620 cameras. I'd love a Tourist (or Modele 33), but I really don't want to jump through all the hoops of respooling.

I have a Tourist II folder which I've been meaning to repair and modify to take 120 for a long time. Sometimes, you need to do a bit of Dremel work to remove excess plastic in order to fit the 120 spool.

Trust me Francois it is more than "a bit of Dremel work". I also have a Tourist II that I modified by grinding out the ribs in the feed and take up film chambers. I blocked off the film gate tightly with card stock and masking tape to prevent metal chips from getting in there and set to work. Took much longer than I thought it would. I thought I could load the 120 as soon as I had clearance in the film chamber but the smaller pegs for 620 spools allowed the 120 spool to wobble and jam. Tried to come up with an insert to reduce the diameter of the 120 spool but that proved harder than it looked. Another problem is that the 120 spool has thicker flanges and so is longer and is a struggle to insert. Finally wound up making a whole new wind key out of a 1/4-20 bolt and sheet steel and also replaced the feed spindles.

In short, the whole process got rather more complicated than I had ever envisioned.

Indeed. I sent a mail and got a very nice and polite reply. The blog owner had met with a small accident and had not been able to publish the images for some days. They are up now however.
