Topic: Less can be more

OK This story doesn't qualify me as a filmwaster on this occasion but I've got an excuse. I'm out walking with my partner, our 2 kids, my brother-in-law, his son, my dog. My brother-in-law has his new Fuji F10 that he bought for his wife as a Christmas present that he really wanted. On a 90 minute walk he left us (so I had to look after his 5 year old too) and came back with 308 shots.

I took 9 on my Holga. Sorry. He hasn't shown me any of his yet but I was quite pleased with my efforts and return!

308 to 9; I bet you spent more time thinking about the compositions?

Though, with that type of ratio, you'd expect something good to come from the 308, souless though it might be. A gear-head friend of mine used to shoot 3008 to my 9, and not one was usuable. But, as he was into the hardware, he was always perfectly happy. Such is life in the modern age. Skj.

I suppose I do. We were discussing the tedious film/digital thing at the weekend - he couldn't understand why I left the Nikon D80 at home. He asked about why I don't see being able to see your image so immediately as an advantage. I said it is in some ways but then you gain in serendipity, and anyway as long as I keep processing film on a regular enough basis I always have a stream of images to work with, it's just that there a few weeks old. Makes sense to me.

I'm with you on leaving the digital at home sometimes.

I just want to have fun, and really think about making art with my film cameras.
Not that I can't make art with my d70, but it's just not the same.

It's almost like buying artificial flowers compared to getting your hands dirty and planting seeds in the dirt to get a bouquet.

The final arrangement is so much more satisfying if you started from scratch.
