Collaboration #31: TV Freaks is now online
« on: July 16, 2013, 01:14:25 AM »
Only 7 entries this time round has slightly spoiled what had otherwise been a great little collaboration. I guess I feel it most keenly because it was my idea and I thought that more people would bite, but I would like to thank very much those 6 intrepid souls who lashed themselves to the mast of my ship in support of my sinking concept. I absolutely loved your photos and your commentaries.

Bravo!

Ed, could you add somewhere in my description that the show is Mr. Bean?

Was there room for doubt? ;)

Well... I don't know. Maybe there is someone who lived in an isolated village without electricity decided to move to the city, get a soul stealing device (camera) and join a little known photography forum only to see someone post a photo of a can of beans that someone tried to open with a hammer and miserably failed at it... the possibility is there... somewhere :)

Actually I didn't realise that it was a Mr. Bean reference. But then I can't stand Mr. Bean, Next time a Blackadder reference, yes? :)

I'm with Urban on this. Couldn't stand Mr Bean, but it seems the character is hugely popular across the whole world, so what does that make me? I'm definitely more of a Blackadder person....but I still loved Francois' photo.

I'll confess that I didn't get the reference at first. Mr.Bean actually isn't particularly popular in America and I only ever saw it when I was living in Europe. I don't think I ever saw the episode in which he tried to open a can of bean with the hammer. Some of the skits I saw were funny, like when he ordered steak tartare in a French restaurant, but in others he was a bit too much of a tool for my tastes.

But yes, it was still a great picture!

Bean actually never tried to open a can with a hammer in any of the shows. But somehow, it felt like something he would try!

Mr. Bean's always been hugely popular in Canada. It was even broadcast on national television!

I thought of bringing other shows to the collaboration but felt that most of the things we see here never make it anywhere else.
Take the Red Green Show, The Littlest Hobo, Corner Gas, Due South; none of them made it anywhere else.

I also thought of making The Prisoner, but I couldn't find a small white weather balloon at a decent price (for those who've never seen this abomination, there were white balloons that would capture escapees and bring them back to the place where people were held hostage...)

Never liked Mr Bean. Loved Blackadder. Corner Gas was a brilliant show!  :D my idea for this collaboration was (I think this is easy to guess.) One black kitten+ one red gel+led lights+microwave(no harm was going to befal the kitten)and a bottle of Fiji water.

Hoser, eh?!? Due south was shown here, but the Great White North did not, now that was fun.

You mean we produce some "international quality television" in Canada ???

I never thought that there could be fans of Dog River Saskatchewan in Florida!

Francois: I'm watching Continuum at the moment; that's a Canadian show. Also, a ton of US shows are shot in Canadia (for instance, my beloved Fringe), but you knew that already.

I never heard of Continuum and never watched Fringe.

But I sometimes watch Murdoch Mysteries... it's an el cheapo version of Sherlock Holmes (set in Toronto during the Victorian era). What I like about it is how many errors are included in the script and the props!

Come to think of it, we've had a few massive international hits like McGyver and Babylon 5.

I'm assuming you have better things to do with your time than watch TV anyway.

I must say I'd rather listen to some music or read. But I do have a few shows I love (Mythbusters being one).
