I'll be partaking again. Just having a think about locations.

Becky - does your photo-hike event still take place?

Excellent!  Thanks for the reminder - I built several cigar box, altoids tin, and paint can cameras this fall, and they are all ready for the celebration!

Leon,
I'm going to help out with a pinhole workshop in New Mexico this year....still working out details, but I'll post them here when finalized.

Hope I haven't bit off more than I can comfortably chew.   :)

I still have a few pinholes I have never tried... it's probably the best occasion to try them out.

We'll be having an Pinhole Photo Walk again this year at the Event Space. Last year we went to Bryant Park and had Tom Persinger as a guest speaker. We had a nice turnout and a great time.

As soon as well decide what this one will be I'll post the info here and hopefully those of you in the New York area will be able to join us.

Thanks for the advance notice!

Enough time to have a second try at a decent hole for my 35mm convert, and adapt a few boxes for 5x4inch sheets!

Woo! Fun.

I haven't used a pinhole yet, but I'm really fond of color medium format square pinhole shots. Any suggestions for cameras to pick up? I'm not against repurposing an old camera or building from scratch. People tell me it's simple but I just haven't taken the plunge yet....

A Holga is probably one of the cheapest and easiest cams to re-purpose.

Just take the lens and square lens holder part off, slap on a piece of aluminum from a soda, beer, etc. can put a tiny hole in it and you're pretty much good to go.
Black tape for a shutter.  I've attached a photo of one I hacked last year.

Half the fun of pinhole day is making a camera for it.  You've got lots of time to build and experiment before showtime arrives.

Many of us at FW have built cameras.  Let us know if we can help, and be sure to show us what you come up with.
 8)

Edit!
If you send me your address I"ll send you a Holga body that already has the lens off that you can modify for pinhole if you want it.

Just steady as you go on the re-spooling.  I seem to wind mine on too tight sometimes and then have a little bump at the end of the film under the paper backing, but it hasn't caused any problems so far.

I'm going to drive holes through a plastic DVD case, front and back, and through the top side of a plastic video case, black them out internally, tape them together and use a 1inch square piece of aluminium can for the pinhole. I'm going to project light through the dvd layer, and video layer onto humble film, and be happy with that...

I have a pinhole lens board for my Tachihara, so I'll shoot it something on instant film with that. Shall we do a gallery to celebrate, or is there somewhere official where we have to post our efforts?

I'm all for our own gallery here at FW.

You can upload to the WWPD site, but if you've been there, then you know it's quite extensive and LOTS of pinholers have photos there.  Pages and pages to sort through....
It's easy to get lost in the fray.
So if we could have a gallery, or just a dedicated thread for pinhole day pix, I'm for that.     8)

Haha! I know I'm mixing my media, shamelessly, and trashing perfectly sound dvd/video cases some might opine, but with the depth I can just about get a 4inch diameter image on a 5x4 film sheet...I'd only need to take 24 images, scan and shrink them to fit an animated gif, and bob's yer uncle, pinhole timelapseotography :D

Speaking of...here's one from my first ever roll with a pinhole camera! The aforementioned lensless Holga astrobeck so nicely sent my way. Not terribly sharp (did I make the hole too big, or is this all camera shake?) but I'm very happy I got all 12 exposure to come out:

1. Remember to do it in the dark, or a changing bag.

2. The film will shift slightly when you roll it back on the 620 spool, due to the changing diameter.  Be ready to relocate the tape at the start of the film, as you near the finish, or you will get a wrinkle that in some cams can cause feeding issues.  Best to have a spare bit of tape handy.  Sometimes the tape pulls some paper fibers with it, and it can not be as sticky.

Thanks! I'll be sure to have some tape ready for when I do this.
if I rememer correctly, fuji films have a high sticky after removal rate (I remember using the same tape to put two rolls together and develop two 120 rolls on one film spool)

The Arghole by commieflex, on Flickr
Working on it. I think I made a good pinhole. The rangefinder on this is camera is off and the lens is pretty nasty. Perfect candidate to pinhole. I will need a tripod and a way to share the photos soon. But for now I can experiment with this. I used a pin and some sandpaper to clean up the hole a little bit. It's my first.   :-\

With the bricks, you have to adjust the rangefinder by hand before you put in the coupling gear. Also, the lenses are reported to give a swirling bokeh...

No rangefinder coupling gear?

That must be an old one.

The story of the brick is a pretty strange one. The older model cameras could be sent back to the company for an upgrade offered at a low cost. If only companies still did that!

This one is a "C" from 1938. There are earlier ones with an "f/s" shutter speed button. The rangefinder is uncoupled and there is no flash contacts. I found this at a camera seller at a flea market. I only got it because it was cheap. I guess we both though this camera was just a c-3.

I'm currently working on pinholing a Zorki-4 aka The Zorkhole-4. The first attempt, Zorkhole-4 Mach 1, was with a pinhole created in brass shim with a #10  sewing needle. The results from the first test roll were terribly out of focus but a partial success as no light leaks were in evidence and exposure looked good. Hopefully with Mach 2 and a new pinhole I shall have better results. I want to have The Zorkhole-4 ready for WWPD.

the first test came out okay...
