Topic: assistance regarding a Bronica ETRS

I need some help with my Bronica ETRS.
If the lever above the winder is vertical (as normal use) the shutter will not cock, let alone trigger, but the film would wind on. If the lever is horizontal (for multiple exposures) the shutter will cock and trigger, but the film will not wind on, as you would expect. It does not matter if the battery is in the camera or not.

Why? I want to use the Bronny, but this is stopping me from using it.
Is it something to do with the film cartridge or something else.

Advises please.

have you checked your battery? Can you manually advance the film freely from the filmback? Does the mirror actuate and reset with the lens and back detatched?

I've never been able to get this function to work properly on either of my SQAi/SQA bodies, Although I never get constant film winding in the vertical position. I do, however get a constant winding when in the horizontal position, and sometimes in the mid-way.  the shutter does cock, but then immediately fires itself and the lever continues to wind. I dont bother to use it anymore.

One question - are you doing this with film in the back?  The "modern" bronnies need film in the back to function.

Thanks for all the help. It might be the lack of film, which unusual, is understandable. I will put a roll in and give it a try. I just hope I won't waste it.

To try it, just re-spool a backing paper and see if that fixes it.

Agree that inserting film should (hopefully) cure the problem.  The shutter on my ETRSi will only fire without film, if the multiple exposure lever is activated.

Yes, put film in it! I had the same issue!

Just to update you all, I put a roll of film in (Fuji Pro 400H in case you ask) went around Manchester at lunch time, crossed my fingers, and.........IT WORKS!

That idiosyncrasy aside, the ETRS is a great camera.  I love shooting with mine!
