The Filmwasters BOOK
« on: September 27, 2012, 11:27:32 PM »
Hello Everybody,

The book is nearly finished (just lacking some material from some photo fellas).

On the meanwhile I am sharing a preview of the book, and the best way I have come out to do so is by ¨publishing¨the book on Blurb.

The idea is that the book is reviewed by anybody interested and that suggestions, flaws or omissions within it are flagged up.

The book will be in Blurb for 15 days, after this period, and after nobody buys it, it will be deleted. So please do not order it yet, as there might be some last minute changes coming. And still some modifications might being done to the pricing which I have not looked much into it.

The link is the following

 http://www.blurb.com/bookstore/invited/2957319/b68bac561a31e01074b9bc70777a9df1d3afd868

It´s set to allow full preview of the book.

If you want to contact me personally you can write me to the following address:  calbisu [at] yahoo.com

Thank you!

Carlos.

Hi Guys¡ Glad you like it!  The filmwasters are now a bit more patient and wiser ;D

The price seems bit high but maybe we can do a not so expensive version of it.

wow~ this ended up as a large book! I'm impressed :)
though I will surely wait before ordering it  :'( trip to Paris and paying for a driving license for my gf will leave me chewing on noodles this october haha  :P :D

after flipping through it, I have two little suggestions..
I think it would feel more natural that after each presentation there would be that persons photos following.
that, and maybe an index at the start or end of the book.

just my thoughts, anyhow this will be a wonderfull book to have at home :)

thanks carlos!

Awesome! And all the work you guys must have put into producing this book. The only negative thing that I can say is that I don't like the font, but that really complaining on a high and very subjective level :)

This looks absolutely fantastic. Bloody excellent work, everyone.

Please feel free to tell me to sod off, but I am more than happy to offer my proofreading/sub-editing skills to give it a once over before the final button is pressed. Let me know if you'd like me to do this.  :)

Actually, it's been in the works for so long I can't even remember when the idea first hatched!
There was a juried decision a long time ago and those who submitted a picture that was accepted got asked to send in high res versions.

If you look at the user status, those who are in the Ultra Secret Book Cabal are the ones working at this.

It looks great, and the calibre of the photos is super high!

Yes, it has been a long term project; it started when I was in the Philippines, accompanied me during my time in Sudan and almost came with me to my new destination, as I am leaving in two weeks time!

There was a separate forum for those who volunteered to work in the book. There decisions were taken as per the format of the book, content, design and others.

The photos in the book are sorted out alphabetically, by the Author´s name. Now what is left is to include Sean´s (who from now on is in the ultra black list  :'() and Leon´s shots (who makes company to Sean in the ultra black list).

The interviews have been posted every 13-14 shots to provide some pause. To put the interview before the author´s shots was complicated as for the aforesaid.

I have received so far one correction of some data that was misspelled and it will be corrected.

Carlos.

fantastic results, thank you so much to all you put this together. I cannot wait to get my hands on a copy or two. but as some people have voiced, I'm a little worried about the price.... I'm sure its reasonable for the amount of work that has been put into it! However I will struggle to buy copies for gifts (was hoping to buy a copy for both the girls featured in my shots)

anyway stellar work none the less!

Blurb is pretty expensive. You might make a paperrback version available so there is a less than $70 option.

I know this might sound awkward, or maybe it's the French side of my brain which is getting somewhat confused (so bare with me)
I'm thinking there should be a different title to the book. Not that it's not good, but there is a single word in the title which I find a bit rough in my brain. I know it sounds strange but every time I read it I think of either hunters or drug addicts... I wouldn't want the subject to be confused with any of those.

Worse case scenario: raw eggs. And if they bust in mid flight, the goop drips down in your parachute and you end up with a very short flight :)

I may have fouled up the plan.  If so, I'm sorry but I went ahead and ordered the book.  It arrived today and I am in awe of the work--beautiful reproductions, generous size and impressive layout.  The binding is a bit wobbly but all other aspects are top grade.  Thanks to all who contributed for the work and doubly so to Carlos for putting it together.

Blaxton! Ha, ha, no problem, there are couple of shots that have to be added to the final version as well as some typos that have to be cared of, but out of that the final book should be identical. I will put online the final version between today and tomorrow and advise when ready.

Are there any shots that looked fuzzy (because lack of resolution)?
Out of the binding issue (do not know what can be done about it) anything else that we should take care of?

And who knows maybe your non-final versions will someday be of great value!  :o

Carlos.
