a lovely start; I can smell the dust...

For myself, I picked up a nice little Bronica ETRSi in Seattle and took it for a test drive last Sunday with a roll of Portra 160 in it.  I like the way this shot turned out, but the sharpness of the lens really took me by surprise.

Finished scanning my stuff from Chicago last week, a couple of car shots here. Will be moving there in a few weeks, so lots to explore!

a little Photoset, getting cupcakes from the bake shop! BTW, we got the two "black forest" ones left. They were tasty.

How do you follow that?! Infrared time for me again from a small wood I discovered close to one of my favourite spots for trees. It's on the side of a valley  which makes squaring up interesting.

Haven't posted anything for a few weeks but that hasn't stopped me from enjoying all the superb images that you've all been posting and this week is no exception!

Love Volker's church interior, Sean's Chicago cars, the cup cakes! ;) and Calbisu's delightful Sudanese set.

A few images from me taken on and around the Ridgeway in Wiltshire.

No comment on the suggestive third cupcake shot!   ;)

I was grinning at that third cupcake shot...and then again after Sean's comment  :D

So Sean, you're moving to Chi Town? Wow. That'll be a different kettle of eels to Arizona. I hope the move works out for you and I'm already looking forward to the photos you'll take in your new base. Bring it on!

I've been away from FW for a while, sorry for not joining in too much in recent weeks, but I have been lurking. Was on holiday/vacation down in Cornwall for a couple of weeks, followed by a couple more back home in London helping to look after the kids until they go back to school....it's at the point now where next Thursday can't come soon enough!!!

I did manage to shoot a ton of instants down in Cornwall using my Bronica S2A + home made lens + expired 125i peel apart combo. I've scanned all of the decent ones, but have only post-processed 4 or 5 of them. Hope to catch up soon....but probably never will. Anyway, here are 3 for the weekend and I'm guessing you'll be able to tell from the shots that we didn't have the best weather for our holiday!!

Volka - such powerful tones!!!

Sean - I love, love those cars, particularly the 1st one.  Congrats on the impending new chapter - I've no doubt you will do Chicago and the surrounding area proud with your fabulous style.

Carlos - this series continues to stick to my ribs.  It's beautiful and mesmerizing.  Love these crisp, inky images!

Paul - gorgeous trees!  and then I came to the color "Windows"-esque image and almost fell out of my chair!!  LOVE!

Ed - what a dream, what a dream!!  The first one, the feeling of isolation and desolation pairs nicely with the oblivion of child at play.  And the horses mane in the wind... ohhhh!!!

Wonderful weekend thread shaping up. I managed to catch up with some of the developing backlog, but not the scanning. Managed to scan a couple of rolls of Fomapan tho'. These 2 shots are of the Ballachulish Bridge taken using a pentax espio (back in May).

Hello fellow Film Wasters!

I've been a long time lurker and now that I've finally registered, I'm a first time poster. I always look forward to the weekend thread and this week has not disappointed.

Below is my modest contribution. I had the great pleasure to see an exhibition of Editta Sherman's portrait work at the West 57th Gallery in NYC and the day I happened to visit, Editta was there for an interview with one of the local network affiliates. I snapped this quick photo during the taping. Not only did I get to listen in on the interview, but afterward my girlfriend and I spent quite a while chatting with Editta about her work and life. She's an absolute charmer and even at 100 years old she shows no sign of stopping.

Hello there, Mr Gavechase, and welcome to FW. I've just trawled the first few pages of your Fickle stream and there are some excellent photos there. I have friends in Brooklyn who we haven't visited for several years, so I'm always up for pictures of Prospect park and its surrounds. The A Train photo is amazing too, BTW!

Paul M: Thank you very, very much for the comment above. You know how much I think of you as a photographer, so your feedback means a lot. Maybe I will try and get to work on the rest of the recent photos after all....seeing as how they're all so amazing  ;)

Thanks for the welcome Ed. I'm glad you like that A train photo, it's one of my favorites as well.

I have no idea who those two gentlemen are. They weren't wearing the masks when the first got on the train, and it took me quite a while to gather the courage to approach them and ask if I could take their picture. They got on at 34th street and I finally took their picture just before the end of the line at 207th street. I was lucky they live in my neighborhood!

Brilliant. What a thread so far.

Volker - suberb. Lovely tones and strong composition.
Ed - just beautiful and I echo Mr Mitchell's comments.
Tin-Tin - A really nice series and I shall never look at cup cakes in the same way again  ;)
Calbisu - beautiful studies, as ever....
Paul Mitchell - some of the best I've seen posted anywhere for a long time. Stunning.
DA Watts - gorgeous shot. Just down the road from me - so I'll have to investigate

My entry is a shot of some daisies taken with Mamiya 7 / 150 lens at Sissinghurst (National Trust house) in Kent last weekend. Kodak Provia 160 scanned and converted to mono.

Thanks for the comments everyone above as well, though i wasn't trying to throw an underlying message into the photo its actually quite hilarious that's how it turned out. I see it too!

Great shots, Magnus! I still haven't tried IR, yet even though I've had a Hoya filter for at least 1 year now. Have you tried the Rollei Infrared 400S? That seems like a possible replacement.

Thanks Ed  :)

Urban, I have not tried any other IR film besides Efkes. I think I've seen somewhere that Rollei retro 80S captures a bit in the IR-spectrum so it should be able to do IR images with a good IR filter.

Kenny, fantastic urban landscape, as usual
Chalky, that second one irradiates happiness. I am sure they will cherish it
Windy, that´s a great portrait of you!

And thank you all for your nice comments, a positive feedback is alway welcome  :) I personally loss objectivity when staring at my pictures, and sometimes I would choose pictures rather because what they mean to me (the process of taking it) than the picture itself, so I appreciate receiving opinions. The shot of the two ladies in the village I enjoyed pretty much taking it. I spent good 10 minutes with the ladies and there was a bunch of people as spectators behind the scene, we ended laughing at each and that was good, of course the Polaroid is alway good at opening people to you.

Ed, thank you for your good wishes, it´s good to be reunited again, the house was too quiet  ;)
