If true, this might get expensive for me. Been postponing my plans of trying out their stuff for a long time, guess this leaves me no choice.

A very sad news indeed! I've heard a lot of great things about efke but still haven't tried shooting it.

I'm really tempted to give the Efke 25 in 5x4" a go.
Does anyone know where to get hold of this in the UK or Europe? I've tried ebay and a few other UK based online shops but got no luck with this particular film.  ???

It is sad news, with that and the Kodak news too :(

The Adox/EFKE CHS 50 Art is one of my favourite films of all time, it has a tonality that is just wonderful, I used to think the 35mm was more like 120 in tone when processed correctly:

ChS 100 ART
I have a few rolls of 120 in my hoard, I will add to them!

A week ago I bought some adox CHS both 13x18 as well as a couple of 120 rolls from http://www.lumiere-shop.de/. And I'm pretty sure fotoimpex in Berlin also has some stock.

Anyway, it's double sad for me as the news comes very short after I decided to switch from foma to adox for my large format stuff... Now I'd better start using Ilford, just that my conscience is in peace that I am supporting someone who sort of cares for future of large format BW photography...
Website of sorts, as well as ipernity thing.

Thanks very much Photo_Utopia and Andrej K! Great tips!

Is Ekfe 25 and Adox 25 pretty much the same film? I'd be happy to try out either one but I'm just curious.

EFKE is Adox they are exactly the same. The films were coated on a 1950's machine to a recipe from the early '50's they had a unique look they were the real deal for old look emulsions.
If you want some act quick, my sources say most places have already sold out-even the importers Fotoimpex have low stock.

From the Adox webpage...
"ADOX® CHS 25 • CHS 50 • CHS 100 Films (was efke®)
These films are old shool emulsions which are still produced according to the old ADOX formulations which were introduced in the 1950ies. For years we have been selling this film under the efke label, now it gets back it´s original name: ADOX."

Never bought a single roll of Efke because I´ve always find them expensive. I had a try with Adox both 4x5 and 120 and I quite like! It needs a bit of care when the emulsion still wet after processing, other than that it´s great! (not to mention the nice little tube container to store the 120 film that comes with) ;)

Yes I'd echo Sapata these emulsions need care, they are coated on a dip and dunk, very thin layers with soft gelatin.
Because they are 'thin' with few layers and  monodisperse (single crystal sizes in each layer)  they require care with exposure, treat them like slide film, don't use stop bath or squeegee to dry.
They like surface developers best, never over develop something like Rodinal at 1:50 or Neofin Blau will give lovely negs.

So finicky to use and process, it took me months (pre internet) to work them out it was worth it though, sad to have less than 10 rolls left.

I bought a few rolls of Efke 127 for the fridge. If you're in the UK AG Photographic have that and the infrared films in stock.

also posted on the kodak thread...

I wrote a bit about these companies on camera-wiki.org. here is a overview on adox efke fotokemika, brand name

Dr C. Schleussner Fotowerke GmbH (Adox)
-Dr C. Schleussner Fotowerke GmbH founded in 1860 germany, used the branding Adox  for their photo products.
-company was bought by dupont becoming dupont adox.
-manufacturing equipment was sold to fotokemika with the right to use the Adox name

fotokemika
-formed in 1940's in croatia manufacturer of chem, film and cameras.
-manufactured products for Dr C. Schleussner Fotowerke. under Adox brand
-bought equipment and rights to adox products and name
-lost rights to use adox name but not film recipe, decided to used EFKE brand so old adox film is now efke. Dupont was using the name for medical products.

Fotoimpex
-formed in during the reunification of germany in 1992 as a film photo product distributor.
- distributed foma, fotokemika, agfa(east) and other iron curtain films.
-early 2000 acquired the rights to the ADOX name calling themselves ADOX Fotowerke, GmbH
-used the name Adox on distributed efke film (that was previously adox film from dr. C)
-after bankruptcy of agfaPhoto, worked with their chemical company to continue to produce rodinal under the adonal name.
-partnered with Agfa Gevaert belguim for film distribution
-bought forte paper production line
-expanding and building film production factory (2011)

The Frugal Photographer
-Canadian film distributor (that ships from USA)
-acquired the rights to ADOX brand name as Adox Fotowerke, Inc. at almost the same time as fotoimpex.
-worked with fotoimpex's to allow their brand of (fotoimpex ADOX) film to be sold in north america
-decided to use the bluefire name to avoid confusion

Wow, thanks TKMEDIA (which sounds unreasonably formal), that's a lot of info but sounds reasonably positive. I particularly like the bit about Fotoimpex 'expanding and building a film production factory (2011)', that's a lot more positive than previous reports!  :)

And I just found out that Efke had the only machine that does 127 in Europe. So all Rollei 127 film was sent uncut to Efke and they made rolls out of it. Let's just hope someone picks up that machine! See http://www.flickr.com/groups/foma/discuss/72157631228866840/ for the whole discussion.

Called them up and they said it's all out of stock and they just haven't updated their site....

Lumiere is now out of stock as well..

How disappointing....

I remember once checking Silverprint's website before going in person to the store to buy the Adox 25 while I was still living in London. The site was showing in stock but when I got there there was none, not sure if sells quick or if it's been out of stock forever!

I was at Silverprint last week and they definitely had some Adox film - I bought four rolls of cheap 35mm Pan 400 there, and there were other speeds and some 120 too. Not sure whether they specifically had any 25 though, or larger formats.

I managed to buy 26 rolls of their Efke IR820 film from Silverprint.  That plus the stocks I already have should keep me going for quite a while.   Haven't been able to find any other stocks though.

Try this place:

http://www.westendcameras.co.uk/

It's on Tottenham Court Road (Goodge Street end). I was in there earlier and I'm pretty sure he's got some - though I know not how much. His eBay link shows he's selling "twin packs" of Rollei 80S and Efke R100. I suspect he'd be happy to sell separately.

He's also got a supply of the new TiP PX600 and PX70 "cool" films for those wanting to try them....
